Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
"Skiing in Color"
In June 2020, CEO Rob Katz was the first resort CEO to make a statement calling on Vail Resorts and all of us as employees to examine issues of discrimination and implement real changes. Soon after, Katz and Diego Zegarra, Park City Community Foundation community impact director, met virtually to discuss diversity, equity, and inclusion in the resort industry. Zegarra was recently quoted in an article from The Salt Lake Tribune covering the state of diversity in the industry in Utah and the U.S. On working to be more inclusive, Zegarra shares, "And one of the things about inclusion is that it’s often invisible for those who are included."
The article touches on ways we can become more welcoming. Artist Lamont Joseph White creates artwork that depicts people of color in snowsports and believes this is one of the key ways to change the experience for BIPOC skiers and riders. The article also suggests small changes that can have a big impact from better representation in our imagery, more food options, and different music options.
