Alumni Service Award

Recipient: Sade Nelson '18

Sade was nominated four times for this award by her classmates for her dedication to serving the Greater Hartford Community.

This service award goes to an individual who exemplifies community service and philanthropy. They further the mission of Goodwin University, focused on academics, commerce, and community to support the success of our students. Sade is passionate about her work whether that is giving back to her alma mater or to her local communities.

Sade is compassionate about what she believes in. Sade has done amazing work especially during COVID. Sade had recruited over 182 students to join the GED program at Urban League of Greater Hartford. She also created an annual diaper giveaway which served over 150 families over the past three years. Congratulations, Sade, on receiving this service award. You will continue to make differences in the lives of many with your generosity and good spirit.

Alumni Professional Achievement Award

Recipient: Destiny Davis '17

This award represents an outstanding professional who differentiates themselves with their professional expertise and achievements. They excel above and beyond with the record of notable career accomplishments and a history of outstanding contributions within their chosen profession.

Destiny continues to shine professionally and is now at her dream job working with kids at Bloomfield Public Schools as a career specialist.

Destiny shares, "The two most important days of your life are the day you were born, and the day you find out why. During my time at Goodwin, I had the privilege of being taught and mentored by some amazing people--and that experience ultimately led me to my "why." I count myself so blessed to be able to live out that 'why' every day by pouring into my students at Bloomfield Public Schools as I help them discover their "whys," just as Goodwin poured into me."

Congratulations, Destiny, for your hard work and dedication to your professional development and growth. The Bloomfield kids are lucky to have you.

Story of Determination

Mickel Grumo, '20

As a young boy growing up in the Philippines, Mickel always wanted a career helping and caring for others. “When I was a kid, I wanted to be a nurse,” says Mickel. But as a young adult, his career plans changed when he joined the Philippine Army, serving his community in a different capacity and earning a bachelor’s degree in computer science. Still, his dreams of a career in nursing never left him. Mickel completes his degree while his wife, Leigh Ann, undergoes cancer treatment.

A Business Striving to care for Grieving Families

Joe Deko and James Integlia both graduated from the Funeral Service program in 2019. They are now the new owners of the East Haven Memorial Funeral Home, circa 1939, treating families like their family.

Upcoming Alumni Events

It's Rebuilding Together Time!

Our local communities need your help now more than ever. Help the homeowners in Manchester stay safe in their homes. We are looking for volunteers to assist with outside spring cleanups. Come as one, come with a friend, come as a group!

When: Saturday, April 29, at 9 a.m.

Volunteers will be treated to an amazing picnic at Northwest Park.

Alumni Night at the Yard Goats

Join the Alumni Association at the Left Field Party Plaza. This is an exclusive group area with amazing views of both Hartford's beautiful downtown skyline and the Dunkin' Donuts Park with a 2.5-hour food buffet and soft drinks, and bar service. Note: it is a no cash park.

Date: Friday, July 7, 2023

Time: 7:10 p.m. game starts. The gates to the game open at 5:30 p.m.

Cost: $50 per person, kids three & under are free.

Goodwin Foundation Events & Save the Dates

Bring Awareness to Food Insecurity

Join the Goodwin University Navigators team.

The Walk will take place on Saturday, May 20 at Dunkin' Park - home of the Hartford Yard Goats. The Walk starts at 10 a.m.

All proceeds will support the Ann B. Clark Co-op on campus. Any donation is one step closer towards a thriving community, free of hunger.

Recipient of Goodwin’s 2022 Excellence in Teaching Award

Goodwin University is recognized around the world as a hub of innovative and student-centered teaching. To celebrate its dedicated faculty, Goodwin University awarded its first Excellence in Teaching Award to Robert LeGary, Jr., a passionate educator who has devoted his life to empowering learners at every level.
