Deep in the wilds of the SRWC campus, where the coffee flows freely and the Wi-Fi runs strong, an extraordinary ecosystem thrives. Strap in, intrepid explorer. We're going in.
|
Our expedition begins at dawn with the Courtyard Cat (Felis nonchalantus), a majestic predator whose primary hunting strategy is lying down. It regards us with the cool disdain of a creature that pays no rent and answers to no one. So typical!
A rustle in the underbrush reveals the Lawn Bunny (Lepus sprintimus adorabilis), a velvet-footed sprinter capable of reducing a grown adult to baby talk at forty paces. Approach slowly.
Above us, a commotion: the Baby Raven (Corvus dramaticus juvenilis), fresh from the nest and absolutely furious about it. Its call, equal parts car alarm and existential crisis, echoes across the courtyard.
Then, a flash of color. The Wild Butterfly (Papilio confettii) drifts past on the breeze, closely pursued by the legendary Rooftop Parrot (Psittacus technicolorus), a squawking streak of green that insists, loudly, on being noticed.
Halfway up the parking structure, where no sensible animal has any business being, clings the Daredevil Squirrel (Sciurus parkouris), a fearless free-soloist scaling sheer metal for reasons known only to itself. There is nowhere it cannot go, and nothing it will not bury.
But the most fascinating specimen of all walks upright. Behold the Devoted Dog-Walker (Homo perambulans caninus), a loyal biped bound by an invisible cord to a smaller, waggier companion. Twice daily it migrates across campus, pausing only for sniffs, snacks, and the occasional belly rub. Researchers suspect the pair communicate telepathically, mostly, we believe, about treats.
And so, as the sun dips behind the parking structure, our adventure ends, but the wild endures. Keep your eyes open, fellow explorer. The SRWC frontier is alive, and it has excellent snacks.

A Quick Coffee Update
In addition to Keurig and drip coffee, Nespresso machines are now available in both Academy Hall and University Hall. To keep everyone safe, personal coffee makers, kettles, and similar appliances are not allowed at desks or in cubicles as they can overload circuits and pose fire risks.
How to use the Nespresso machines:
- Choose your coffee pod
- Flatten the edges
- Drop gently in the slot
- Choose the type of brew and enjoy!
