We ROCKED Viva!Vienna!

Our incredible Vienna House Band owned the stage at this year's Viva Vienna. The rain held off and we were able to play to a wonderful and enthusiastic audience!  So great to have our SOR VIenna alumni Nikki, John, Jack, Ally, Ben, Hunter, and  Dave back for a few songs too! Thank you Vienna!

We Are Open All Summer Long!

Did you know School of Rock is open ALL SUMMER LONG???  Yes!  We have all our regular lessons and programs PLUS some super fun camps that up the ROCK! Summer is the perfect time to spend more time on your musical growth.
But, as a parent you maybe thinking that you doing some vacationing and don't want pay for lessons you can't attend.  No worries!  The Summer Make Up Lesson Program to the rescue!  We offer GUARANTEED MAKE UP LESSONS in the summer and work around your schedule.  So, don't lose your lesson slot time or risk your child not getting their favorite teacher back in the fall, or (oh no!) let them be bored when you are in-between summer activities - it's easy to stay plugged in.  Click to find out more or see Brian at the Front Desk.

Make Music Day Festivities

Come Celebrate MAKE MUSIC DAY 2018 with School of Rock Vienna this month on Thursday, June 21st!  What is Make Music Day you may ask?  Make Music Day is a free celebration of music around the world on June 21st. Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 800 cities in 120 countries.

Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician — young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion — pours onto streets, parks, plazas, and porches to share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers in a free and open celebration of music.

Vienna SOR will join the celebration by participating in the largest live performance ever of David Bowie's Rebel, Rebel, which will also be played simultaneously by other School of Rock students around the globe.  It will be a Facebook Live event as well.  In the spirit of the day, we will set up in the parking lot in front of the school and jam a bit before the live event at 8PM.  All our students who would like to be a part of this will be asked to learn a part on Rebel, Rebel prior to the event so they can participate.  How fun is that?

Stay tuned for event details coming out soon!  In the meantime mark your calendar now for Make Music Day 2018 on
June 21st 6 to 9PM.
Senior Spotlight
It's that happy/sad time of year when we send off our seniors into the big world.  School of Rock is a family and we are so proud of our graduating students who have left their mark on our program in countless ways.  Best of luck to these amazing young people and we know you will do great things.  We will miss you!

Abner Gonzalez

What are you doing after graduation? My parents are forcing me to go to college. (Editor's Note:  Go parents!)

What advice to do you have for kids who are coming up through the School of Rock program? Practice, Practice, practice.... and don't mess around.

What has been the best thing about SoR and what will you miss? Rocking out. I will mis all my friends here!

Andrew Nicholson

What are you doing after graduation? Going to Bowdoin College in Maine.

What advice to do you have for kids who are coming up through the School of Rock program? Listen to your Director's advice. Even if you think it doesn't apply to you. You'll end up doing it anyway, so save yourself some time.

What has been the best thing about SoR and what will you miss?
The best thing has been the people I've met - the teachers I've learned from and the students I played together with. I think I'll miss the moment when everything clicks and the song locks right in, when everyone is feeling it and in tune with each other. There's nothing else like that!

Carly Greenlee

What are you doing after graduation? I am taking a partial gap year and then going to study vocal performance at Musicians Institute!

What advice to do you have for kids who are coming up through the School of Rock program? My advice is to practice, the only way to get better and be more confident in yourself is to practice. Be outgoing and respectful to your fellow musicians, and teachers  - it will benefit you in so many ways, musically and in life. And just have fun! SOR has been one of the best and most fun experiences I’ve had.

What has been the best thing about SoR and what will you miss? The best thing about school of rock was having a place where I can do what I love (sing)! I also am so grateful for all the opportunities and tours I got to participate in at SOR. I will miss playing gigs all the time, and everyone I got to play music with. It has truly been a great experience!

Chris Horton

What are you doing after graduation?  I am going to pursue a career in music while attending college.

What advice to do you have for kids who are coming up through the School of Rock program? My advice to any newcomers to SoR is to practice as often as possible and to always come to SoR events and rehearsals with a positive, focused, and hard working mindset.

What has been the best thing about SoR and what will you miss? SoR has done amazing things for me, but personally the greatest thing that SoR does is give young musicians confidence. SoR has erased any fear I ever had of playing in front of others and being myself on stage. There are many things I will miss about School of Rock but the one thing I will miss the most are the amazing, talented, and inspirational musicians and staff I was so privileged to constantly be surrounded by. School of Rock has truly changed my life and made me believe that my dream can become a reality!

Elsa Scott

What are you doing after graduation? Going to Boston University!! Go terriers!

What advice to do you have for kids who are coming up through the School of Rock program? Never be afraid to be yourself. Put yourself out there, take chances, because it’s only when you’re out of your comfort zone can you really grow as a musician, performer, and person in general.

What has been the best thing about SoR and what will you miss? Growing up through the program has been amazing, watching my friends improve their musicianship and feeling my own improvement as a musician and performer has been something pretty special. I think the best thing about SoR, however, is not individual improvement but rather how much teamwork it fosters. I loved working with my band mates on tough songs, congratulating them when they finally nailed that guitar lock or memorized those lyrics, helping with a vocal harmony when a singer just needed that extra ear to hear it, etc. I’ll miss my friends and I’ll miss my teachers — I’ll miss the family that School of Rock has created.

Tyler Dodge

What are you doing after graduation? I will be going to James Madison University.

What advice to do you have for kids who are coming up through the School of Rock program? Practice hard, listen to teachers, and love the music you play.

What has been the best thing about SoR and what will you miss? I will mis my Guitar Instructor, Dante!
