| A Strategic Approach to Working Together for Justice: A Letter from Our CEO I hope that you are looking forward to our upcoming National Health Care for the Homeless Conference as much as I am. The event’s theme, “Working Together for Justice,” comes at an opportune time. More now than ever, we need to build united efforts to address the systemic inequities fueling the homeless epidemic—and causing our nation to fall far short of its stated ideals and its promise. I am also pleased to present the results of our Strategic Planning process, which will help direct the Council’s efforts to effectively ensure quality services for people without homes while helping to end homelessness. | Learn About Medication-Assisted Treatment in HCH Programs in Our Archived Webinar
If you missed our discussion about Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and how Health Care for the Homeless programs can increase services, you can now view the archived recording and slides. HCH programs serve only four percent of all health center patients, but they are responsible for serving nearly 40 percent of all patients receiving MAT. Learn successful strategies to expand these services from staff at two HCH programs and find more information in our recent policy brief on MATs and HCH programs. Additionally, archived materials from Tuesday’s webinar on Hepatitis A vaccinations for people without homes will be released soon.

| New Rules May Allow Providers to Refuse Care to Vulnerable Patients on Religious Grounds
The Trump Administration’s newly-released rules on religious freedom will have a widespread impact on health care programs, including services available at health centers. Taking effect in July, the extensive rules will make it easier for health care workers to refuse to provide care that violates their religious or moral beliefs, potentially including the provision of birth control, medications or other treatment related to HIV, advanced directives, immunizations, the provision of Narcan or Suboxone for those with opioid use disorder, services related to LGBTQ care, or other services that may conflict with individual beliefs. More information on how health centers can implement this rule will be forthcoming, but Health Affairs offers a solid overview.

| Council Technical Assistance Helps HCH Programs Aid Patients with Medical-Legal Partnerships
Since 2015, the Council has partnered with Ellen Lawton and the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership to provide technical assistance (TA) to develop medical-legal partnerships (MLP) at HCH programs to address patients’ civil legal needs. On April 17-18, Albuquerque HCH Program (AHCH) hosted onsite TA sessions to begin integrating legal services into their program. AHCH leaders Jennifer Metzler, Anita Cordova, and Byron Akin provided insight on laying a successful foundation for MLPs, and Rozanne Beardmore from the Orlando HCH program also attended. We are grateful for these two programs and will provide continuing technical assistance in the next 14 months. Learn more about how MLPs address the social determinants of health for homeless populations in our recent fact sheet.
