🎓 KU Commencement
10:30 am | David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium
The university-wide Commencement ceremony is a less formal, no ticket required, all-university graduation event. KU Commencement’s most treasured tradition is the ceremonial walk down Mount Oread. It begins on Memorial Drive. From there, graduates march through the Memorial Campanile and to the stadium. In many ways, the walk is the ceremony.
NOTICE: Seating and amenities will be reduced due to ongoing construction at the stadium, and we encourage participants to limit attendance to six guests per graduate to keep the event comfortable for everyone. Family and friends can also watch the ceremony via livestream at the Kansas Memorial Union or the Jayhawk Welcome Center, or from their personal devices.

This graduate seminar offers an in-depth inquiry into the early life, creative practice, and architectural pedagogy of architect and educator Daniel Libeskind (1946-present). Using this seminal figure as a lens into post-war North Atlantic architecture and its educational practices reveals complex questions. To think through these, each week will be organized by themes. Through lectures, readings, videos, and discussions, students will explore not only Libeskind but also related architects and academics, works, and crucial ideas across different sites (profession, creative practice, and schools). The seminar aims to enrich the students’ knowledge of their discipline as well as enliven their self-understanding as emerging professionals.

Eternal Spring: Pines | Spencer Museum
January 17 - June 29
Eternal Spring: Pines references the ability of pine trees to survive harsh conditions and remain green during winter makes them ideal symbols of endurance and fortitude. The twisted branches and delicate needles of pine trees were an excellent subject for brush-and-ink artists to demonstrate their painting abilities. Pines can live for centuries and are closely associated with immortality in East Asia. According to Daoism, a Chinese religion and philosophy that emphasizes harmony with nature, the consumption of pine sap and resin is believed to promote long life. For a better understanding, 17th-century Japanese poet Matsuo Bashō advised, “to learn about pine trees; go to the pine trees.”
