What's Growing - June 12, 2023

Interpretive Volunteer Updates

Dear Volunteers,
Scarlet the Amorphaphallus titanum is causing quite the buzz online and in the west gallery of the Conservatory as many weigh in on whether they think there will be a bloom this year. If it does bloom, we estimate that it will take place in late June - early July and we will need volunteer support during a 48-hour bloom event where volunteers can help share the story of this remarkable plant with thousands of Conservatory visitors.
Whether you're an interpretive volunteer, docent, or garden guide, we'd be delighted to have you join us for this special event - a Corpse Flower Bloom! No prior knowledge of the Conservatory or Corpse Flowers is required. If you are interested in possibly jumping in to help for this event, please join the training event that will be hosted on Zoom on June 26 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm or email Sarah at ssawtelle@gggp.org. You'll receive emails on bloom timing, training, and volunteer opportunities!
If you would like to vote on whether you think Scarlet is growing a leaf or a bloom, join our visitors online on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter - or stop by the west gallery for a visit.
Another important update at the Conservatory is that beginning on July 1, the Conservatory of Flowers will shift its weekly maintenance closure day from Mondays to Wednesdays. This change has now been reflected on our public site and volunteer registration. We hope to see you at the Gardens soon!
