Fatigue Risk Management solutions
that make a real difference

Mind the gap. Try out optimisation for free.

Improvement potential - heard those words lately? Perhaps in your latest performance review? Kidding aside, are you aware of the gap between your current way of planning your crew, and 'best possible'? Or the gap between how you plan right now and how it would look if you were to plan only with the regulatory rules? There are many properties in such gaps that may be of interest to you: are you 4% short on crew efficiency, while planning with 15% higher fatigue risk? And how does robustness and direct costs compare? What 'smart' patterns can a state-of-the-art industry-strength optimizer find that your current process misses out on?
At Jeppesen we have, systematically over the course of thirty years, pushed and shifted the boundaries for how much computers can assist crew planners in their daily work. Since 1991 we have, step-by-step, improved our crew planning optimizers to deal with almost any type of complexity, at high speed, while providing operators with unmatched flexibility for also coping with change. For example, some ninety (90) operators are currently relying on the Jeppesen Crew Pairing optimizer for production runs, forecast planning and their what-if scenarios driving change.
Assuming you are not one of those 90 operators - are you not curious about your gap, quantifying what you are missing out on? Let us help you here; until the 9th of December we offer operators a free optimization run planning your own flights, for a calendar month of your choice. You will receive the full pairing solution and all critical KPIs reported on for the overall solution. You can then, all by yourself and at your own pace, compare these to your own solution for that month.
If you're interested, and do mind the gap, you just need to fill in this form. Welcome!

Welcome Bamboo Airways!

Bamboo Airways, based in Hanoi Vietnam, operates some 30 aircrafts and has ambitions of becoming a 5-star airline. Bamboo has now decided to use the Boeing Alertness Model (BAM) and Jeppesen Concert for their FRMS.
"Flight safety is at the very top of our agenda at Bamboo Airways, which is why we have decided to use both Jeppesen Concert for our long-term analytical work, and also a tight integration of BAM into our existing crew management solution", says a spokesperson at Bamboo Airways. "The Jeppesen functionality will enable us to control fatigue risk in all stages of the operation and give our planners instant feedback and support in their daily work building and maintaining crew rosters", he concludes.
Philippe Janvrin, Scheduling Safety Expert at Jeppesen, comments: "We are grateful and excited to see Bamboo Airways joining our large community of operators relying on Jeppesen for FRM. We look forward very much to working together with them and by that also sharing their fantastic expansion and journey towards excellence".

CrewLounge integration

The CrewLounge Connect app has been provided with integration to Jeppesen CrewAlert
Users are now able to easily export their roster data into CrewAlert for a detailed fatigue risk assessment improving awareness and enabling prevention and mitigation.
This new integration also brings CrewLounge Connect users capabilities, via CrewAlert, for fatigue reporting that more easily provides their organisations with a richer level of detail. Did you know that fatigue reporting is built-in, using the actual flown schedule, prior sleep, and all other relevant data to convey?
Please find through this link a CrewAlert cheat sheet that provides a functionality overview. Many of the features are available also without a subscription.

Ten trillion (!) flights evaluated

The Boeing Alertness Model (BAM), is today by far the most widely used fatigue model within aviation. In August, yet another milestone was passed when BAM was used for predicting alertness in customer pairings and roster for, wait for it... the tenth trillion time! The explanation for this sizable number is that many airlines use BAM during the optimization process, guiding the crew pairing and rostering solutions to lower risk, and BAM is consulted during run-time for every new pattern considered.
The acheivement was recently commemorated (picture) at Jeppesen with a plaque handed over by by Johan Kollind, Director of the Crew and Ops Portfolio, to David Karlsson, our Senior Fatigue Modeling Expert. Congratulations David!
Fatigue models differ widely in capabilities, validation and performance. Download here a fatigue model comparison matrix for easy benchmarking of models.

New to sleep, performance and shiftwork science?

Many of us think we have figured it out, all by ourselves. We know, empirically, what makes us tired, how and when. And we assume the rest of the world works the same.
Well... - it turns out that there is a fair variation across the population, and in order to really know how people in general are affected by work and rest periods, time of day, sleep debt, workload and acclimatisatpon, we need to rely on quality-assured science. However, studying up on this science can be quite difficult - and at times it may seem that there are sooo many different results and interpetations out there - even conflicing ones.
If you recognize this description, it may be of comfort to learn that there are a fair number of findings that a good portion of the scientists DO agree on. Findings found true, over and over. The Working Time Society have put great effort into summarising these in a number of consensus papers and made them freely available. You can find them through this link. Enjoy!
