Green Tip
Please enjoy the following eco-friendly tidbit brought to you by Friends of the Environment:
The hummers are back! Did you know the hummingbird is the only bird that can fly backward? We love to attract them to our yards with feeders and watch their antics. But are you putting red dye into their sugar water or using a commercial nectar with red dye? Red dye has no nutritional value for the birds and is only an unnecessary additive. Colorless sugar water will provide the nutrition needed for healthy hummingbirds without any potential added risk. The standard formula is to blend one cup of sugar with 4 cups of water. Nearly all feeders have red artificial flowers on them, so the hummingbirds are naturally attracted to the feeder without the need for red liquid. So let's keep these little birds safe!
