Good Afternoon,
Sometimes, things just get busy around here. In June, my full time job changed, so I've been learning something new. I'll send another IRW this week. If you have something that I didn't write about here, and you want to ensure I have it, please send me an e-mail.
Northeast
In August 1994, we wrote the first 'Fort Wayne RadioWatch', which detailed changes at WADM (1540am, Decatur). Several ownership changes happened in the past 25+ years. Lewis Broadcasting, LLC purchased the station in 2007 for $110,000. In 2011, WADM became jazz formatted WJZI.
In April 2015, the tower with WJZIs antenna fell over in a windstorm, and WJZI has been off the air ever since. Lewis Broadcasting, LLC surrendered the licenses to both WJZI and the CP for an FM translator W291DF (106.1fm, Decatur).
Greg Phipps' Metro Video Productions out of Lima, Ohio, signs on low-power TV station WLMO (Channel 2, Fort Wayne). Here's their channel lineup:
.1: This TV
.2: Comet TV
.3: NBC LX
.4: The Country Network
.5: QVC
.6: QVC2
.7: Shop LC
In early 2018, N-T/WOWO (1190am, Fort Wayne) and W298BB (107.5fm, Fort Wayne) replaced Mark Levin with Buck Sexton in late evenings. Now with Mr. Sexton moving to a different time slot, WOWO puts Mark Levin back to the same 9pm until Midnight timeslot.
Where Are They Now? Former WBYR/WFWI OM Jim Fox becomes OM for Cumulus' Kansas City cluster, and PD of their KCMO-FM. Also, former then-CHR/WCKZ (then 102.3fm, Auburn) APD/MD/Night guy Mike Thomas joins Cumulus to program KCJK-FM 'The X' and KCHZ-FM 'The Vibe.' Mr. Thomas
('Jagger' as he's now known) also does afternoons on 'The Vibe.'
Northcentral
Hoosier AM/FM's AC/WZWZ (92.5fm, Kokomo) welcomes David Horner ('David') in middays. Mr. Horner last worked for KATJ in Victor Valley, Caliornia.
Sound Management's CHR/WNDV (92.9fm, South Bend) night host Kadie Daye exits, and joins the morning show at WYRK in Buffalo, New York ('Clay and Company'). Ms. Daye also graduated from Goshen College, where she worked at their AAA/WGCS (91.1fm, Goshen).
Northwest
Where Are They Now? Former WLFI-TV Producer Tracy Davis earns a promotion to VP/News at WVIT-TV in Hartford, Connecticut.
Eastcentral
Joel Pyle becomes VP/Market Manager for the Hoosier AM/FM radio stations in both Marion and Kokomo. Mr. Pyle joined Hoosier AM/FM about five years ago, after a lengthy career with Federated Media.
Also at Hoosier AM/FM, their Talk/Oldies format on WBAT (1400am, Marion) gains an FM translator: W288DN (105.5fm, Marion). The FM translator signed on last month.
For $80,000, 5GTV, LLC purchased WIWU-CD (Channel 51, Marion) from Indiana Wesleyan University. The new call letters for Channel 51 are WJSJ-CD.
Central
Today, Emmis Communications will turn off the Sports format heard on WFNI (1070am, Indianapolis). The format continues on WIBC-HD2 & HD3 (93.1fm, Indianapolis), W228CX (93.5fm, Indianapolis), and W298BB (107.5fm, Indianapolis). The 6 towers (4 towers, daytime, 6 at night) will come down at their Whitestown transmitter site. 1070am signed on as WIBC on October 31, 1938, and became WFNI in late 2007.
Continental Broadcast Group's Classic Mexican Hits/WNTS (1590am, Indianapolis) adds their FM translator: W280FR (103.9fm, Beech Grove). It's a 99 watt translator, on one of the WNTS towers along East Raymond Street.
Where Are They Now? Former WTTV-TV meteorologist Star Derry now serves as Chief Meteorologist at WITN-TV in the Greenville, North Carolina market.
Westcentral
Landover 2, LLC sells 45 unbuilt LPTV station CPs to J&J Winemuller's Lowcountry 34 Media LLC for $1.3 million. These CPs include W30DO-D (RF Channel 30, Brazil) and W34ET-D (RF Channel 34, Brazil).

Southwest
Townsquare's Country/WKDQ (99.5fm, Henderson, Kentucky) veteran broadcaster 'Big Bill' Love exits and joins Midwest Communications' Country/WLYD (93.5fm, Chandler) for mornings. '93.5 The Lloyd' launched in October 2018 (IRW 10/04/2018) as a jockless format, and that makes Mr. Love their first on-air personality. At WKDQ, Mr. Love spent nearly three decades there, mostly in mornings.
Gray Television's NBC affiliate/WFIE-TV (Channel 14, Evansville) welcomes sports and news anchor/reporter Tamar Sher. Ms. Sher graduated from Indiana University. Also, WFIE has several departures: Sports Director Bethany Miller exits and joins the sports team at Hearst's KOAT-TV in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Also, reporters Joseph Payton and Katie Tercek both exit. Mr. Payton becomes a reporter for sister station WSAZ-TV in Huntington, West Virginia. Mr. Payton joined '14 WFIE' in June 2018. Ms. Tercek became a reporter for sister station WOIO-TV in Cleveland, Ohio. Finally, at WFIE, Jess Denton (morning news producer) also exits, and joins WBTV-TV in Charlotte, North Carolina as a news producer.
