We hope you have enjoyed this beautiful Michigan summer. We eagerly await the networking and learning that fall will bring. We are preparing for the PCI Physician Meeting in Traverse City and the BMC2 Vascular Surgery Collaborative Meeting and MISHC’s Collaborative Meeting in Livonia. Of course, there will be opportunities for our registry coordinators, with meetings held both virtually and in person. Read the meetings section of the newsletter for details.

We are also pleased to share health equity resources from our friends at Michigan Social Health Interventions to Eliminate Disparities (MSHIELD) and a pilot of a new consortium-wide calendar.

We hope these stories and tools will inspire and aid you as you continue your exceptional commitment to improving quality of care and outcomes for patients in Michigan. Thank you for all you do!

New Consortium-Wide Q4 Calendar

We are piloting a comprehensive calendar that displays BMC2 and MISHC meetings, deadlines, and dates and locations of national and international conferences, all in one place. You will find the PDF available for download from our website under “Member Resources.” Use it digitally to link directly to more information or print it and hang it in your office or lab as an easy reference tool. Love it? Have ideas on how to improve it? Please contact the Coordinating Center to share your feedback.

Health Equity Resources from MSHIELD Now Available on BMC2.org

BMC2 is pleased to share health equity resources from Michigan Social Health Interventions to Eliminate Disparities (MSHIELD) on our website's "Member Resources" page. New Email Address for Corresponding About BMC2 Publications

Do you have an idea for the Publications Strategy Committee, need assistance creating a central illustration for your abstract, or have you received notice that a journal will publish your BMC2 manuscript? Use the new email address, bmc2.publications@umich.edu, to contact the Coordinating Center with all publications-related correspondence. We will gladly assist you each step of the way to share the successes of your site and the consortium through publications using BMC2 data.

Society for Vascular Surgery Hosts the “Vascular Health Step Challenge” Fundraiser

September is Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Awareness Month, and the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) is hosting the “Vascular Health Step Challenge.” They invite you as an individual or a team to “join the movement to get moving” and walk 60 miles in September to keep the 60,000 miles of blood vessels in your body healthy. This fundraising campaign will support exercise therapy for low-income patients and the Society for Vascular Surgery Foundation’s efforts to prevent and treat circulatory disease. Registrants will receive a Vascular Health Step Challenge T-shirt and their own fundraising page. There are also prizes for reaching your goals and for top fundraisers. BMC2 Meeting Summaries

The BMC2 VS Coordinator Webinar was held on August 16th, 2023, from 11 am – 12 pm. Dr. Jason T. Ryan of Ascension Borgess presented "Aortic Arch Types." You can view the presentation on our YouTube channel. There is a new Vascular Surgery Coordinator participation requirement for report distribution and attestation—look for the attestation form to be release in the next month. BMC2 will send Snapshot Reports to sites by September 1st. Sites must select one 2024 QI project using the measures outlined in their report. We welcome you to submit feedback about REDCap using the new REDCap Feedback Form on BMC2.org under Member Resources/Coordinator Resources/REDCap Resources. Upcoming Meetings

The PCI Physician Meeting with MI ACC will be held on September 23rd from 1 pm – 3 pm at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa, Traverse City, MI. Participants can take advantage of the Annual Michigan Chapter ACC Conference happening September 23rd – 24th. Drs. Gurm and Sukul will share BMC2 updates and information on obesity trends. Dr. Eric Walchak will share best practices for same-day discharge and Dr. Mohammad Imran Qureshi will present on PCI patients with cardiac arrest. You can view the full agenda on our website. BMC2 physicians recently received registration information in their email.

The BMC2 VS and MVS Collaborative Meeting will be held at the VistaTech Center at Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan on November 2nd from 11:30 am – 5 pm. You are invited to stay for the MVS evening speaker from 6 pm- 9 pm however attendance is optional.

The BMC2 PCI Coordinator Webinar will be held on November 9th from 10 am – 11 am.

The Michigan Cardiac Rehab Network (MiCR) Stakeholder Meeting will be held on November 17th from 10 am – 3 pm at the Trinity Health Ann Arbor Intensive Cardiac Rehab Facility.

The BMC2 VS Coordinator Webinar will be held on December 13th from 11 am – 12 pm.

MISHC News
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan published the article “Improving Quality of Life for Patients with Heart Valve Replacement” in their Value Partnerships Update. The piece outlines the ways that the Michigan Structural Heart Consortium (MISHC) worked to improve the collection and documentation of the Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire (KCCQ) and, as a result, can more accurately detect changes in the KCCQ summary score, which measures quality of life for patients who undergo TAVR procedures. MISHC hospitals collect KCCQ documentation more often than the national average. They saw a 21% increase in the KCCQ summary score from 2016 through 2022 and MISHC patients report a better quality of life 30 days after TAVR compared to the nation. The MISHC Coordinator/Abstractor Meeting will be held on Friday, November 10th from 10 am – 3 pm in the Dome at Arbor Lakes, Ann Arbor, Michigan. The MISHC Collaborative Meeting - combined with the Michigan Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (MSTCVS) Collaborative Meeting – will be held on Saturday, November 11th, 2023 at 9 am at the VistaTech Center at Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan.
