Venture Investing Is Booming - If You Know Where To Look
When One America Works visited Pittsburgh on their recent expedition, they experienced the spirit of entrepreneurial innovation thriving within Carnegie Mellon University, helmed by the seasoned, five-time entrepreneur and Executive Director Dave Mawhinney. Under his leadership, Carnegie Mellon has been steadily forging its path to becoming a top-tier entrepreneurial institution, producing transformative startups and delivering handsome returns for investors. Central to this success is the CMU Swartz Center, named after Accel founder Jim Swartz, which continues to amplify its impact by introducing new accelerator programs, an early-stage fund and an extensive alumni network.
During their visit to the Swartz Center last week, which included participation from several investors, they met the founders of Mach9 (Alexander Baikovitz), Blastpoint (Alison Alvarez) and Shift Robotics (Xunjie Zhang).
Sean Mawhinney, program manager at the Corporate Startup Lab (CSL), took a spin around the Swartz Center in the Moonwalker shoes during the event.
