Removed By Force

Alumnus Bill Kaneko ’83, Hon.’03 is one of the producers of a new documentary about the forced relocation of Japanese Americans in Hawai`i during WWII, featuring oral histories gathered from families who were evicted from their homes near military bases on Oahu.

"A lot of folks don’t share these stories. And that’s why the documentary is very important because it memorializes this...aspect of Hawaii’s history,” Kaneko told Hawaii News Now.

Be Prepared

Practice makes perfect or, at least, prepared. This Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 10:45 a.m., we will hold our annual lockdown/shelter-in-place campuswide drill. During this drill, you are asked to:

Secure your classroom, office, room, or workspace
Secure windows, close blinds, and turn off lights
Stay low to the floor and away from windows and doors as much as possible
Silence cell phones, remain quiet, and wait for further instructions

In the event of an actual campus emergency, students, faculty, and staff will receive Security Alerts via text message to their university email addresses and/or personal cell phones. To ensure that Security Alerts are properly delivered, campus members should update their contact information through myPugetSound. Parents can view active Security Alerts on the university website.

Traveling Court

The Washington State Supreme Court was on campus Sept. 13–14. During their visit, the justices visited classrooms, held panel discussions about the legal system, and heard oral arguments in two cases before the court. It is the third time the court has visited Puget Sound. Learn more about the court's visit.
