Alumni in the News- Jeff Speck ’85, a city planner who advocates internationally for more walkable cities, is featured in a new PBS documentary, Walkable USA, about the planned revival of downtown Hammond, Ind.
- Hailed by The New York Times as “absorbing from start to finish,” Frederick Wiseman’s ’51 latest documentary, Menus-Plaisirs—Les Troisgros, transports audiences to the French countryside to examine the workings of a family-owned, Michelin-starred restaurant.
- Dan Wohl ’15, who went from playing basketball abroad to working at Tesla for four years in a variety of roles focused on finance, strategy and business development, tells Forbes about changing careers and his extensive research on electrifying transportation during his time at Harvard.

Williams students on Winter Study's Taiwan Study tour

News from the college Winter Exploration Winter Study is underway! Taught by faculty, alumni, staff and community members who are experts in their fields, Winter Study courses run a wide gamut and include some offerings not available during the regular academic year. In addition to an array of travel and language courses (such as Taiwan Study Tour, pictured above), other staples in this year’s catalog are classes on environmental sustainability, the arts, life skills and wellness and faculty-guided independent study.
Faculty in Focus
- Phoebe Cohen, chair and associate professor of geosciences, is a collaborator for the new Buffalo, N.Y.-based public art project and exhibition In the Sun’s Absence, which features haiku installed on public signage, sound art, video, print work and sculptural projects throughout the city.
- Laura Martin, associate professor of environmental studies, pens an article for TIME Magazine that looks at the impact of the Endangered Species Act, now in its 50th year.
