Duke Researcher Strives to Keep ‘Forever Chemicals’ Out of North Carolina Water Supply
PFAS, or “forever chemicals,” are widespread in our environment and pose serious health risks—but thanks to dedicated university research, people like Duke’s Lee Ferguson are leading the charge in identifying, tracing and mitigating their impacts. With over two decades of work, Ferguson has helped develop a statewide testing network and innovative methods to track PFAS contamination across North Carolina. His work shows how research funding directly translates to public health protection and environmental safety.
Professor Ferguson's work was supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
