UW-Whitewater is a home of transfer student success. More than 650 first-year students joined the Warhawk family after starting at other colleges and universities. This week, UW-Whitewater joins institutions around the country to celebrate National Transfer Student Week.

This week: Check your holds

Students, prepare for the spring 2026 registration period by checking your holds — barriers to your academic progress — between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. this Monday-Friday, Oct. 20-24, at One Stop, located in room 129 of the University Center. Staff members are ready to assist you with navigating holds on your account so you can register for the spring semester.

Monday: Celebrate Diwali 

Join us Monday, Oct. 20, from 1-3 p.m. to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights — a vibrant Hindu festival that honors the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. Reflect on light, growth, and new beginnings. Decorate your own candle with provided supplies. Learn about Diwali traditions. Free for UWW students, faculty, and staff.

Tuesday: Vehicle safety and maintenance

Get hands-on experience with an experienced mechanic and learn how to perform vehicle maintenance operations like changing a tire, jump-starting the battery, filling car fluids, and so much more! Join the Women in Business Institute and Student Safety Organization this Tuesday, Oct. 21, from 3:30-4:45 p.m. outside of Upham Hall.

Wednesday: Film screening with UWW faculty

Join us Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 5 p.m. for a film screening and discussion of "Welcome Poets" with Nicholas Gulig, associate professor of literature, writing, and film, former Wisconsin Poet Laureate and the film's writer, along with Colin Crowly, producer and director of the film. Film screening followed by Q&A. Free and open to the public.

Crossman Gallery updates

Please join us at the Crossman Gallery in the Greenhill Center of the Arts Thursday, Oct. 23, from 5-6:30 p.m. for this year's Juried Student Art Exhibition reception and awards ceremony. Parking is free in Lot 1 during the event and light refreshments will be provided. Also, the Crossman Gallery is thrilled to announce that as a result of over 500 students casting their vote in the third annual “WOTA Collects Art,” the university is acquiring Shahzia Sikander’s print “Orbit” (2012). "Orbit" will be on view in the Center of the Arts atrium for the remainder of the 2025-26 academic year.

A total of 138 UW-Whitewater students are members of the Warhawk Marching Band for the 2025-26 academic year. The band performed at American Family Field in Milwaukee last month.

Business faculty member honored 

Andy Yu, professor of management, received the Best Paper Award from the Management Consulting Division at the 2025 Academy of Management Annual Meeting, held in Copenhagen, Denmark (July 25–29). The conference welcomed over 13,400 attendees from around the world. The coauthored paper — “Can D&O Insurance and CEO Types Encourage Exploratory Innovation in Family Firms?” — was also nominated for the prestigious all-academy Carolyn B. Dexter Award, which recognizes outstanding international scholarship across all divisions.
