UW-Whitewater will have an impressive presence at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Eleven current or former Warhawk student-athletes or coaches will represent Team USA, and four other former Warhawks will compete for their native countries.

Alumni spotlight: An immersive accounting experience

We continue our celebration of the 110th anniversary of the College of Business and Economics with the story of Renee Kraft, who started her tenure as a student at UW-Whitewater as a shy, self-proclaimed “numbers nerd.” Now, she works for one of the state’s most recognizable brands in a senior manager role after earning a pair of accounting degrees from the university.

The 30-minute premiere will include an introduction by Kyle Winter, the videographer, and the 15-minute short film. This event is free.

Lance Freeman, a biology major from Port Washington, is currently in Australia for a yearlong study abroad opportunity. His experience brings him one step closer to realizing his dream of working on the ocean.

Kudos to Juk Bhattacharyya, professor of geography, geology and environmental science, and her team of students, who presented their collaborative research at the Geological Society of America Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Students included Dean Wink, a geography major from DeForest, Blake Stephens, a geography major from Mukwonago, Beto Patino Luna, a geography major from Janesville, Derek Wallis, an environmental science major from Sussex, and Miles McIntosh, a geography major from Gurnee, Illinois. Kudos to Children’s Center staff members Ellie Bader, lead teacher, Katie Check, lead teacher, Chelsea Newman, director, Jake Pierce, lead teacher, and Kat Reddeman, lead teacher, who presented at the UW-Whitewater Early Childhood Conference on April 6. The staff presented on the philosophy, mission and child-led curriculum the center embodies. More than 50 early childhood professionals from Illinois and Wisconsin toured the center, showcasing the amazing childcare program the university offers.
Kudos to Jennalee Johnson, lead teacher at the Children’s Center, who participated in a panel discussion “Deepening Advocacy for Early Childhood Education and Care through Collaborative Connection” at UW-Whitewater’s Early Childhood Education Conference on April 6. The session focused on understanding how current legislation is impacting ECEC. Panelists shared their experiences advocating for ECE policy and discussed key issues like access and equity for children and families.
Kudos to Kate George, a human resource management major from Oconomowoc, Hayley Pfaff, and general business and psychology major from New Berlin, and Izabella Romandine, a human resource management major from De Pere, who represented UW-Whitewater and finished in first place at the Wisconsin Society for Human Resource Management Student Case Competition on April 6 in Beaver Dam. Kudos to Tobin K. Anderson, DBA, College of Business and Economics, on receiving the UW-Whitewater School of Graduate Studies Outstanding Dissertation Award for spring 2024. His dissertation, “Towards a Theory of Consumer Gratitude: Studies on the Dimensions, Antecedents, and Consequences of Consumer Gratitude,” builds the multi-dimensional construct of consumer gratitude, examining the factors that predict consumer gratitude and demonstrating consumer gratitude’s influence on several important consumer outcomes.
Kudos to Grace Wickman, a communication and general business major, on being WIAC Softball Position Player of the week. For the week, Wickman hit .714 with a slugging percentage of .857 and was perfect defensively. Read more »
Kudos to Maddy Anderson, a physical education major, on being WIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week. Anderson shut out Illinois Wesleyan University to lead the Warhawks to a 1-0 win over the Spartans on April 6. She tossed a complete game two-hitter, while striking out eight and walking just one to improve to 4-0 on the season. Read more »
Kudos to Tina Shelton, a human performance major, on being Women’s Track Athlete of the Week. Shelton registered the fastest time in NCAA Division III this season in the 100-meter dash at the UW-Whitewater Rex Foster Twilight on April 5. She posted a time of 11.74 seconds to win the event.
