UW-Whitewater safety students earn national scholarship
|
Occupational safety majors Christopher Gomez of Reeseville and James Groehler of Oconomowoc were among 40 students nationwide to earn a 2023 Qualified Academic Program Scholarship from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP).

Kudos to management major Kylie Bilello, marketing major Ryan Roubik, marketing major Rafa Alveraz-Reyas, and marketing major Fionnbharr Hartnett, who created a social impact video that earned third place at the 2024 AMA International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans in April. Featured in the video were marketing major Emily Thill, communication major Margot Yelle, finance and German double major Evan Vache, and business and economics double major Halle Kray. View video »

Kudos to Brenda Volk, head softball coach, on earning her 750th win as head coach of the Warhawk softball team on April 25. Volk is ranked 19th in NCAA Division III history in career wins. Read more »
Kudos to Sarah Hessenauer, professor of social work, Deanna Guthrie, associate professor of social work, Faith Jones, a social work and Spanish major from Mokena, Illinois, Lynsey Grenier, a social work major from Marinette, and Breanna Flores, a social work major from Glenbeulah, who presented at the Wisconsin Council on Social Work Education State Conference on May 4 in Wisconsin Dells. Eight students from the Social Work Student Organization also attended.

Kudos to Amy Stevens, professor of special education, and Shannon Stuart, professor of special education, who were invited for two presentations at the Spring 2024 OPID Conference: The Joys of Teaching and Learning on April 18-19 in Madison. Sessions included “Sustained Engagement with Teaching and Learning” and “Innovating Special Education Programs While Reflecting Back: Providing Excellence in Education Professional Preparation in Response to Changing Needs.”
Kudos to Early College Credit student Cosette Wildermuth, who will graduate this summer with an associate of arts degree. One week later, she will graduate from Whitewater High School. Thanks to the excellent advisors at the Academic Advising and Exploration Center, Cosette will be the first student to earn her A.A. from UW-Whitewater while still in high school.

Men’s tennis, baseball earn WIAC championships
|
The UW-Whitewater men’s tennis team claimed the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship Saturday with a 5-2 win against fellow nationally-ranked foe, The College of New Jersey, at the Warhawk Outdoor Tennis Complex. The Warhawks begin NCAA Tournament play this Saturday in Whitewater. Read more>>
In addition, the UW-Whitewater baseball team clinched the WIAC regular season title with a win against UW-Stevens Point on Friday in Whitewater. By finishing first in the conference standings, the Warhawks earned hosting privileges for the 2024 WIAC Tournament, which begins this Thursday at noon. Read more>>
