JANUARY 2024

FROM THE PARENT PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Happy New Year 2024 graphic
Happy New Year from the Office of Alumni & Parent Engagement! It is so good to have our students back on campus. They bring so much joy to each other and bring campus to life. We hope you and your family were able to take time to reflect on the fall semester, set new goals and discuss expectations for the new semester. A new year brings on a new opportunity to consider what is important and where energy can best be spent. As your student adjusts to a new semester, study schedule and academic routine, finding balance is key. Students should be eating well, sleeping well, exercising and taking care of their mental well-being as they ease into a new academic semester.
Also, just a friendly reminder that students receive a “Have You Herd” email every Monday. This email contains important information about upcoming events, deadlines and campus information.  Remind them to make sure they are checking their Lipscomb email.

Go Bisons!

Director of Parent Engagement

SPOTLIGHT: CENTER FOR VOCATIONAL DISCOVERY

CVD logo CliftonStrengths Coach logo
Lipscomb’s Center for Vocational Discovery (CVD) helps students think about identity, purpose, vocation and location by inviting them to consider four critical questions during their time at Lipscomb: Who am I? Why am I here? What will I do with what I’ve been given? Where will I go next? Our mission is to help them discover their first calling as a child of God and then to discover a life of purpose within their vocational callings in their careers in whatever contexts they engage.
This journey of discovery begins with an all-freshmen chapel and a CliftonStrengths assessment to help students learn about how they are designed. The journey continues through assignments that are integrated into their Lipscomb Experience course, their first three Bible courses and eventually in coursework in their chosen field of study.
Along the way, students are also offered unique workshops throughout the semester and an off-campus retreat. Examples of workshop and retreat topics include strengths development, spiritual gifts discovery, mindfulness, Enneagram, stewardship, learning to listening to God, purpose-discovery and much more. In addition our Center for Vocational Discovery is always open for students where they are offered a place to hang out, study, interact with our team, seek counsel, utilize the vocational tools we have developed or receive one-on-one coaching in our Strengths lab.
If we can ever serve your student in a specific way or you ever have any questions about what we offer, please don’t hesitate to be in touch. You can connect directly with director Rob Touchstone at rob.touchstone@lipscomb.edu. We also hope you will encourage your student to engage with CVD and to take advantage of the many opportunities offered to help them become more of what they are created to be!
