Happy 140th birthday, CIA!

CIA President + CEO Kathryn Heidemann, center, was joined by students, faculty and staff on November 13 to celebrate CIA's 140th birthday with a cupcake party in the Mary Ann and Jack Katzenmeyer Student Lounge. We look forward to the next 140!

Shop at CIA's holiday sales this weekend!

Shop at two great events this weekend by visiting CIA for the Student Holiday Sale and the 100 Show + Sale on Friday, December 2 from 5 to 9pm and Saturday, December 3 from 10am to 6pm.
Stop by the Student Holiday Sale for creative, handmade gifts in glass, metal, ceramics, photography and other media—all made by our talented students.
Purchase a piece of great art and support CIA students at the 100 Show + Sale. Works by faculty, students, alumni and friends of CIA will be sold for $100 (or denominations of $100) in this student-organized show and sale. All proceeds go toward the annual spring break student trip to visit galleries and museums.

CIA participates in Google Arts and Culture project

CIA participated in the recent launch of Google Arts and Culture's "Created in Cleveland." The project features artwork, history and culture from 18 Cleveland-area institutions, and allows users to explore the city and learn more about its cultural assets. Illustration students create posters for Rock Hall

Senior Illustration students collaborated again with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to create induction ceremony posters for 2022. View the collection of posters here, and purchase up to five student-created posters from the Rock Hall Museum Store.

Visit CIA for faculty and student shows

A tradition that spans decades, the Faculty Exhibition is a celebration of art, design and their makers. It provides an opportunity for the public to view new, original and innovative works by CIA’s world-renowned art and design faculty. Visit the show in the Reinberger Gallery through December 22.
Critical Conversations: Art in Practice is a Cleveland Institute of Art studio/seminar class in which students engage in semester-long research of a single contemporary artist. During the Fall 2022 semester, students selected their research subjects from The Progressive Art Collection and created new works in response. The show is on view December 9 through January 23 in the Ann and Norman Roulet Student + Alumni Gallery, the Donna and Stewart Kohl Corridor, and the Mary Ann and Jack Katzenmeyer Student Lounge.

Victor Schreckengost '29* will have a sculpture reinstalled at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport after roughly three decades. Read more about the restoration and reinstallation here.   
Joseph O'Sickey '40* has work at WOLF's gallery in Beachwood, Ohio through April 1.   
Rebecca Kaler '64 has work in Fallout: Rebecca Kaler, Paintings from 2003 - 2022 at Artists Archives of the Western Reserve in Cleveland. An artist Q&A will take place December 10 at 1pm. 
Larry Garber ’75 has fourteen drawings in the alumni art show of Sewickley Academy in Sewickley, Pennsylvania through December 16.
Lesley Discont Arian '76 will have work at the Winter Solstice Luminary Walk and Holiday Market from 5:30 to 8:30pm on December 16 at Shaker Lakes Nature Center in Shaker Heights, Ohio.
William Moore '84 has work in the All Abstracts 2022, a juried exhibition with Camelback Gallery in Tucson, Arizona. One of his pieces, "Seeing the Blackbirds Song," won a bronze prize award.
Judy Takács '86 won the first place prize in the 91st Akron Society of Artists Annual Juried Members Exhibition, which is on view through December 6 at Akrona Galleries in Akron, Ohio. 
Laura D'Alessandro '93 and Violet Maimbourg '21 had work in a group show, The Occult, at Doubting Thomas Gallery in Cleveland's Tremont neighborhood.
Amy Casey '99 and Lori Kella '97 have work in State of Art: Constructs at the Akron Art Museum in Akron, Ohio through February 26. Both were featured in the Winter 2022 edition of Canvas magazine
Timothy Callaghan '99 has a solo exhibition, Factotum, at the William Busta Projects in Cleveland's Waterloo Arts District neighborhood. 
Jason Milburn '03 has a solo show, Jason Milburn: Supply Chain, at the Sally Otto Gallery of University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio through December 14. 
Nolan Beck-Rivera '15 and CIA Liberal Arts faculty member Elizabeth Hoag talked about the growing effort from museums and organizations to repatriate stolen and looted artifacts and artwork on Ideastream's The Sound of Ideas. Listen here.
Julia Milbrant '19 and Sydney Nicole Kay '21 were featured in the "Who's Next" article in the Winter 2022 edition of Canvas magazine. The article also featured CIA student Derek Walker '23 and adjunct faculty member Meagan Smith. Kay's photograph is featured on the magazine cover
