When Dylan Parks, assistant professor of instruction in the Department of Biology and head of UTA’s new Brewing and Fermentation Science Certificate program, tells people he used to be a beer scientist, they usually get the wrong idea.
The process of turning sugar and water into something you wouldn’t mind kicking back with at the end of a long day is one that still intrigues Dr. Parks, he said, noting that it’s a complex science rooted in the fundamentals of microbiology.

Maverick Speakers Series presents “A Conversation with LeVar Burton” Thursday, Oct. 5, 7:30 p.m. Burton, perhaps best known for his 26-year run as host of the beloved PBS classic Reading Rainbow, also originated the iconic role of Geordi La Forge on Star Trek: Next Generation. He continues to advocate for reading and exercises his love for storytelling in a variety of formats, including literacy-focused apps, books, podcasts, and film. Admission is free for faculty, staff, and students.
