Faculty Development Leave Program
The Faculty Development Leave Program (FDL) provides tenured faculty members with paid leave from teaching and service responsibilities and allows them to focus on developing their research, scholarship, and creative endeavors. (At other universities, this type of leave is commonly called a sabbatical.) The FDL application system is open and closes on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. CDT.

Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award
The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award Competition is now open, offering more than 380 opportunities for U.S. citizens to go abroad between Fall 2027 – Spring 2028. The competition closes on Tuesday, Sept. 15. Interested faculty may contact txglobal-grants@austin.utexas.edu for guidance.

Harrington Faculty Fellows - National Security
Pioneering early- or mid-career scholars in the area of national security are invited to apply for the Harrington Faculty Fellows Program for the 2027-28 academic year. This highly selective program provides a full year of salary support to enable ambitious scholars to focus entirely on the advancement of their research and scholarship. Bolstered by unmatched resources and financial support, Harrington Fellows are provided the freedom to solve significant problems, the privilege of renowned mentorship and scholarly collaboration, and the opportunity to push their work forward for the benefit of all society.

Professional-Track Faculty Conference Attendance Program (PCAP)
PCAP provides funding to support professional-track faculty attending academic and professional workshops or conferences. Eligible faculty may apply for up to $1,400 to support attending a conference or workshop. The travel period for eligible trips is between Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026 – Sunday, Aug. 15, 2027. Applications are due by Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026 at 5 p.m. CDT.

Call for Proposals: Texas Health Catalyst Partners with XPRIZE on Women’s & Ovarian Health
This fall, the Texas Health Catalyst (TxHC) program at Dell Med is proud to partner with XPRIZE, the global leader in designing and operating large-scale incentive competitions addressing urgent health challenges, to help accelerate innovation and entrepreneurial solutions in women’s health. Through this partnership, TxHC applicants may choose to align their projects with the goals of the upcoming XPRIZE Ovarian Health competition, creating a potential pathway from project development to participation on a global stage and the opportunity to compete for significant funding. The Texas Health Catalyst Fall Challenge is currently open and accepting applications. This fall’s challenge focuses on advancing women’s health and child health innovation, with general proposals for any innovations in health also welcome. Apply by Sunday, Sept. 6.

Complete Your Preventive Care Requirement
The Preventive Care Incentive Program (PCIP) is a UT System program administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) that encourages UT SELECT members to complete an annual preventive care exam. UT SELECT active employees and covered spouses must complete a qualifying exam by Monday, Feb. 28, 2027, to avoid a $50 monthly premium differential beginning in May 2027.

Jonathan Sheehan (University of California, Berkeley) is a European intellectual and cultural historian whose work focuses on the history of Christianity, the history of knowledge, and the history of secular modernity. Across his research, Sheehan explores the history of the human sciences, the rise of modern disciplines, and most broadly, the importance of religion in the making of the secular world. - A Habsburg Liberal in Twentieth-Century Europe: The Cosmopolitanism of Friedrich Hertz

Joshua Bennett (University of Oxford) is a historian of intellectual and religious life in Britain during the nineteenth and earlier twentieth centuries. His focus is on the histories of historical consciousness and social theory, and in the implications of religious commitment and secularism in these areas of debate.

Navigating AI in the Classroom
Wednesday, Sept. 30 | Perry-Castañeda Library (PCL 2.350) | Register Join the Office of Academic Technology and the UT Libraries for a workshop about addressing AI in your classroom. We’ll start with a discussion of responsible AI and then participants will work with facilitators and other attendees to design a syllabus statement, accommodation policy or assignment. This in-person workshop is open to all UT faculty and instructors. Coffee and snacks will be provided. Registration is required.

AI experts and leaders from the University of Texas System, academia, industry, health care and government will come together for two days in Austin. Hosted by UT Austin and Dell Medical School, the two-day symposium will explore how responsible AI is transforming health care, biomedical research, education and clinical operations — while creating opportunities for collaboration across disciplines. Registration is open, and abstracts for talks and poster presentations are being accepted through Thursday, Sept. 10.
