Regional cultural plan seeks your voice |
Residents in Portland and across Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas Counties have an opportunity to help set the vision for the next generation of arts and culture in our communities.
Our Creative Future, a new collaborative planning process that kicked off in November, provides community members a chance to share their interests and dreams about what the future could be for arts and culture in our region, contributing to a final regional arts and culture plan by early next year.
“The arts are vital to our culture and livability,” said Portland City Commissioner Dan Ryan. “Now we’re asking the community to help us create a new vision for culture, creativity and the arts that will guide our policies and investments for years to come.”
You can get involved by filling out a short survey, downloading a Community Conversations toolkit to host group discussions, or attend a virtual meeting designed to gather input from across the region. For more information, visit ourcreativefuture.org.

Collaborative effort underway to decide the future of monuments in Portland |
The Portland Monuments Project follows the 2020 protests and calls for racial justice which swept the nation and led to the toppling of several monuments in Portland, including the statues of Presidents Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and George Washington. These statues remain in storage while the City prepares for an inclusive process to decide the future of these and other monuments.
Earlier this year, the City Arts Program initiated a partnership with Lewis & Clark College to convene a planning committee made up of diverse and highly skilled individuals whose research and practice engage with community dialogue, including monuments, memorialization, public space and art. Members of the Monuments Planning Committee include representatives from the Regional Arts & Culture Council, Lewis & Clark College, and Portland State University.
Their work will culminate in June with a report and recommended approaches for inclusive community engagement. Those community engagement activities are planned to begin in July, and will ultimately inform new policy recommendations for the future of monuments for City Council's consideration in early 2024.
