Summit highlights value of earning microcredentials

Through microcredentials, such as those offered by Coursera Career Academy, professionals and students alike can brush up on areas they are familiar with or dive into something new to bolster their resumes by completing short training programs. Microcredentialing, skills-based learning, and the role of artificial intelligence in the workplace were the themes of a special conference hosted by UTA, in coordination with The UT System, Coursera, and Lightcast.

Hosted by UTA’s Academy of Distinguished Teachers, the Pedagogy NEXT podcast series showcases insights from award-winning faculty members and University administrators. The Office of Talent, Culture, and Engagement is hosting a one-hour Benefits Annual Enrollment presentation on Tuesday, July 9, in the Lone Star Auditorium of the Maverick Activities Center and virtually. The presentation will be given in English at 1:30 p.m. and in Spanish at 3 p.m.

The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) has selected UTA bioengineering Professor Jun Liao as a fellow for his contributions to cardiovascular research. AIMBE fellows compose the top 2% of medical and biological engineers in the U.S.

Study on children's motor skills
|
The College of Nursing and Health Innovation’s Department of Kinesiology is looking for participants between the ages of 5-18 to participate in a noninvasive motor skills assessment that will be fun and easy. Up to $45 in compensation will be provided for a two-hour session. Schedule an appointment this summer by contacting Crystal Alvarez at cea3792@mavs.uta.edu or 682-259-5464. This study, funded by Pearson, will be used by pediatric physical and occupational therapists to make decisions about rehabilitation in clinics.

UTA PD text message survey
|
Beginning Monday, July 1, members of the UTA community who request services from the UTA Police Department will be among the first in Texas to utilize new software to provide feedback. With PowerEngage, text message surveys may be sent to those whose number is recorded as part of a call for service. Those who do not want to participate can simply not respond or reply with “STOP,” which will opt them out of all future text surveys.
These surveys should not be used to report any type of emergency or crime. As always, call 817-272-3003 or 817-272-3381 to contact the UTA Police Department.

| Prioritizing undergraduate research
|
Under the guidance of Kayunta Johnson-Winters, interim director of undergraduate research at UTA and an associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry, UTA increased the number of opportunities in its Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program and Undergraduate Research Assistant Program from about 30 to 100 students per year. The Office of Information Technology will launch Microsoft Bookings With Me for all UTA employees tomorrow, Friday, June 28. Bookings With Me allows users to create one-on-one meeting slots with customizable parameters. It differs from Microsoft Bookings in that only personal calendars are included and will be automatically updated once a meeting slot is booked.

Hongtei Eric Tseng, a distinguished university professor in the UTA Department of Electrical Engineering, has been awarded the 2024 Soichiro Honda Medal, which recognizes an individual for an outstanding achievement or a series of significant engineering contributions in developing improvements in the field of personal transportation.
