Multifaith Ending Mass Incarceration Conference Recap
January 11-13, 2023
Did you know that Georgia's incarceration rate is higher than any other state in the U.S. - in fact, the highest rate of any democracy on earth?
This is one of the many reasons two of our OSRL staff members attended the Multifaith Ending Mass Incarceration conference co-sponsored by Ebenezer Baptist Church, The Temple, and Odyssey Impact in order to learn about how faith communities can make a difference in this issue, an area where many interlocking oppressions such as racial, economic, and gender disparities converge. Thursday, January 26, 12:00 p.m., Candler School of Theology
Join Dr. Craig A. Ford for his lecture titled Whose Aquinas? Which Natural Law? When many ethicists—both Catholic and otherwise—think about liberative ethical projects, many of them do not consider the natural law tradition as a viable candidate. In this lecture, Dr. Ford engages the natural law tradition that descends from the theology of Thomas Aquinas, arguing that the theological resonance of black queer freedom dreams can be strengthened by thinking alongside the natural law tradition as a dynamic, living tradition.
