UAH team wins 2024 NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge for 2nd year in a row |
Engineering students captured first place in the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge (HERC) for the second year in a row. UAH has finished first five times in the 30-year history of the event: 1996, 2012, 2018, 2023 and now 2024. More than 600 students with 72 teams participated, including 13 from other nations.

May 6 commencement will honor spring 2024 graduates, introduce new ceremonial mace |
UAH will award an estimated 1,206 degrees during spring 2024 commencement ceremonies on May 6 in the Von Braun Center. A new ceremonial mace reflecting UAH’s strong connection to space exploration will be introduced as part of the pomp and circumstance honoring the graduates.

UAH welcomes new head coaches for men’s and women’s basketball programs |
The UAH men’s and women’s basketball programs welcomed new head coaches in April. Mick Hedgepeth will lead the men’s program as the 10th head coach. Allen Sharpe is the 13th head coach of the women’s program. Hedgepeth comes to UAH from Berry College, where he led the men’s team. Sharpe led the men’s and women’s teams at Wallace State College.

U.S. News & World Report ranks College of Nursing master’s program 2nd in Alabama |
The College of Nursing master’s degree program at UAH received the second highest marks in the state of Alabama in U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 rankings of nursing graduate programs released in April. The program was third in Alabama in the 2023 rankings.

UAH student cybersecurity team wins VICEROY national championship |
A student cybersecurity team from UAH won the first Virtual Institutes for Cyber and Electromagnetic Spectrum Research and Employ (VICEROY) National Cyber Competition. The VICEROY Institute supports a virtual institute at UAH to develop expertise in critical cyber and electromagnetic spectrum operational skills for future military and civilian leaders of the Armed Forces and the Department of Defense.

Graduate students’ projects shine in 2024 Graduate Poster Session |
Graduate students from across a wide range of academic disciplines showcased their research during the annual Graduate Poster Session in the Student Services Building. Winning entries were selected by faculty judges from the Colleges of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences; Education; Engineering; Nursing, and Science.
