Founder of ShopKirana Named Disruptive Retailer of the Year
ShopKirana, co-founded by Carnegie Mellon University alumnus Sumit Ghorawat ('2011), Deepak Dhanotiya and Tanutejas Saraswat and headquartered out of India, was just named Disruptive Retailer of the Year by the Economic Times. ShopKirana is a commerce company focused on technology and supply chain innovation that aims to empower retailers to be competitive by providing technology, operational expertise and scale advantage.

Tepper School of Business Alumnus Todd Medema Receives 2024 Undergraduate Alumni Award
In a post via LinkedIn, John Segenberger, Executive Director of Alumni Relations at the Tepper School of Business, announces that Todd Medema (TPR/BS 2014) is the recipient of the 2024 Tepper Recent Undergraduate Alumni Award in recognition of his career success and his ongoing support of Carnegie Mellon's Tepper School of Business. Todd, also a mentor with the CMU Swartz Center, is a founder, entrepreneur and innovator—all while co-authoring a best-selling book, co-founding Fabricate.IO and pursuing his interest in clean energy.
Todd will receive his award at the upcoming Tepper Alumni Awards Ceremony at Acrisure Stadium on April 20, 2024.

Toyz Electronics Is Empowering Gen Z
In a recent feature in the Pittsburgh Technology Council newsletter, Toyz Electronics—founded by Damola Idawu and his son Wole—was featured for its positive impact on Generation Z, which has recently joined the workforce, marking a new era of growth and challenges. Employers have already identified a generational skill gap that could potentially result in trillions in lost revenue. Toyz Electronics combines gaming, a marketplace and online learning platforms all into one immersive platform.
The company is an MIT Solve finalist for Anti-Racist Technology and runner-up in the Richard King Mellon Foundation pitch competition. In 2022, the company raised a $500K seed round.

Tartan Food Truck Takeover Returns
Students at Carnegie Mellon University will have more opportunities to eat locally this spring as the Tartan Food Truck Takeover returns to Legacy Plaza with a new lineup of Pittsburgh-based restaurants.
Launched in the fall of 2023, Michael Maddalon, a senior student at Tepper School of Business, initiated the student-led Tartan Food Truck Takeover program in partnership with CMU Dining and Chartwells Higher Ed. The Tartan Truck Takeover is a new, student-founded, student-run program bringing a weekly series of local, small business food trucks and restaurants to serve their food out of the CMU food truck, the Tartan Express. Opportunity to Help CMU IoT/AI Platform Enter B2B Market!
Adrich is an IoT/AI platform that has been operating in the CPG space, and is looking to enter the B2B market to provide JIT (just in time) replenishment. The project is to identify product-market fit in industries/businesses where inventory management is critical and can leverage Adrich's auto reordering technology and usage data. The project involves in field work with customer discovery such as in person interviews, analyzing current operations and identifying key business KPIs that would be drastically improved by implementing Adrich's solution. This project will provide first hand experience with entrepreneurship and building a company vertical ground up.

Applications for the 2024-26 Innovation Scholars Program Close Today!
The CMU Swartz Center has opened applications for the next cohort of undergraduate Innovation Scholars. This prestigious program fosters innovation and entrepreneurship aimed at increasing the number of successful startups initiated by or involving Carnegie Mellon University’s undergraduate students from across campus. Students in their junior year are eligible to apply.

Apply to the CMU Robotics Institute Pathways Fellowship by April 14 The Carnegie Mellon University Robotics Institute Pathways Fellowship is recruiting for its second cohort. This is an immersive program aimed at empowering entrepreneurs within the domains of robotics, manufacturing and automation. Scheduled to run from August 19, 2024, to May 15, 2025, The Pathways Fellowship blends essential components—including financial support, academic opportunities from Carnegie Mellon University, mentorship and off campus supplemental opportunities—to ensure aspiring founders have the skills and support needed to succeed. This program was created to elevate marginalized entrepreneurs within robotics. BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) individuals and women are encouraged to apply.

Apply for the Innovation Commercialization Fellows Program by April 15!
The Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship has opened applications for the 2024-2025 Innovation Commercialization Fellows program. Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows working with faculty investigators and are interested in driving the commercialization efforts for their Carnegie Mellon University research-based startup are eligible to apply.
This is a year-long program that will begin on July 1, 2024. Along with cohort-based educational workshops and expert one-on-one mentoring, Fellows will receive a $50K contribution from the Swartz Center, contingent on a $50K match from another source, to support them while they focus on the commercialization process. Apply by April 15, 2024 at midnight ET. Send questions to Melanie Simko.
