The Dean's Office is funding undergrad assistantships

| *NEW* Undergrad Assistantships, apply by September 30
The CAS Dean's Office will support up to 10 undergrad assistantships for spring/summer 2026. These opportunities should provide hands-on research or creative work experience for students on faculty-led projects. Faculty should submit a 1-page proposal outlining the project. Selected students will receive $15/hr for up to 10 hrs/week for spring (17 weeks) or for spring + summer (29 weeks). Learn more.

Munroe Student Research Fund Applications due September 15
The CAS Office of Research is now accepting applications to the Dorothy Levis Munroe Student Research Fund. The fund supports undergrad or graduate students who conduct research in the natural and mathematical sciences. Students apply in partnership with their faculty mentor; mentors can sponsor up to 2 students. Learn more and apply.

Office of Research Compliance & Integrity offers RCR training, office hours
On October 16 at 1:30 PM, the Office of Research Compliance & Integrity (ORCI) will host it's fall Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training on the topic of peer review. The session will be held in MHRA 2711. ORCI also hosts "office hours" the first Tuesday of each month, from 2-3 PM in MHRA 2711. View all DORE events.

Updates on NSF Priorities NSF has published information, including FAQs, about its updated priorities, including Broader Impacts and broadening participation activities. NSF is also tracking implementation of recent executive orders. Read the update.
NIH Notice: Supporting Fairness and Originality in NIH Research Applications NIH has issued NOT-OD-25-132, Supporting Fairness and Originality in NIH Research Applications. This notice states that NIH will not consider applications that are substantially developed by AI or contain such sections. Further, NIH will accept only 6 applications from an individual PI/PD or MPI in a calendar year. Read the notice.

DORE Internal Research Awards, apply by October 20Projects are funded up to $5K for individuals, $10K for collaborative projects (2+ UNCG applicants) or $25K for larger, interdisciplinary projects (2+ UNCG applicants from different departments). ICEE Community-Engaged Pathways & Partnerships (P2) Grant, apply by September 26This P2 Fellows program supports and advances community-engaged scholarship among UNCG scholars and community partners. Global Engagement Office funds international activitiesThe Global Engagement Office supports international activities through Kohler Awards (up to $1000) and international travel awards (up to $600). Scholars Travel FundUp to $750 (with a $375 match)! Tenure-stream faculty may apply for one award per fiscal year to support domestic travel to present scholarship at an academic conference. Apply Now >>
Proposal Preparation Program (P3) Up to $3,000 to help faculty members conduct research or scholarship that leads to an external funding proposal. Funds can be used to collect or analyze pilot data, purchase equipment, or travel to archives. Apply 6 months before your deadline. Learn more >>
SIRF (Supplemental Innovative Research Fund)
Tenure-track and professional-track faculty can apply for a SIRF award (up to $800, no match required). SIRF awards can be used to purchase materials, collect data, cover publication costs, or supplement other internal awards. Learn more >>

Undergraduate Research & Creativity Award (URCA), apply by Oct 17This award helps faculty and students partner in meaningful projects that advance knowledge while providing an opportunity for student development. Faculty mentors apply for up to $3000 to be used for student support, plus $500 for other project-related expenses. Apply for a Spring 2026 award by October 17. Learn more >>
URSCO Student Travel Fund, while supplies lastThis fund provides undergrad students supplemental travel support to present results of their research, scholarship, or creative activity at a professional meeting in their field. SOCON Undergraduate Research Forum (SURF), October 24-25 (Register by September 15)
The 2025 SURF conference will be held Oct. 24-25 at Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC. There is no registration fee and the Southern Conference will provide most meals. Contact URSCO for assistance. Register by September 15.
2025 SNCURCS, November 15 (Register by October 3)The State of NC Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium (SNCURCS) will be co-hosted by Elon University and Forsyth Tech on November 15. Simons Collaborations in Mathematics and the Physical Sciences The Simons Foundation invites Letters of Intent for projects that stimulate progress on fundamental scientific questions of major importance in mathematics, theoretical physics and theoretical computer science. Provides $2M per year for 4 years, with additional 3 years possible. LOI deadline: October 29, 2025
NSF LEAPS_MPSThe Launching of Early-Career Academic Pathways in the Mathematical and Physical Sciences (LEAPS-MPS) supports the careers of pre-tenure faculty whose research is in Mathematical and Physical Sciences fields at institutions that do not traditionally receive significant amounts of MPS funding, such as R2 universities. Deadline: January 22, 2026
NIH Support for Research Excellence (SuRE) Award (R16) UNCG anticipates being eligible to compete for NIH R16 awards by the May 27, 2026 deadline. SuRE awards provide support for investigator-initiated biomedical research at resource-limited institutions by full-time faculty who are not currently funded by NIH Research Project Grants. Dr. Marc Rich (Communications Studies) received a new award from the City of Greensboro ABC Board for the proposal titled “Spartan Recovery Program Faculty Fellow.” Learn more about the Spartan Recovery Program.
Dr. Ratnasingham Shivaji (Mathematics and Statistics) received a continuation award from the National Science Foundation for the project “Collaborative Research: Mathematical and experimental analysis of the interaction between competitors and a shared predator – from patches to landscapes.” Learn more from the NSF abstract.
