JUDGE RULES OPM FIRINGS ILLEGAL
A federal judge in San Francisco ruled that the mass firing of probationary employees is illegal and must be halted. U.S. District Judge William Alsup issued a temporary restraining order (TRO), instructing the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to rescind its directives to various federal agencies, including the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense, to terminate probationary workers. The lawsuit, brought by labor unions and civic groups, argues that OPM lacked the authority to mandate such firings, as it does not have congressional approval to manage employees across different agencies.
