Dear Colleagues,
As we move into the semester break, it's a perfect time to pause and reflect on the resilience we've shown this year. Despite challenges, we've continued to grow, adapt, and persevere. As I reflected on the fall semester, I thought of a poem I wanted to share.

Lines Written in the Days of Growing Darkness
by Mary Oliver
Every year we have been
witness to it: how the
world descends
into a rich mash, in order that
it may resume.
And therefore
who would cry out
to the petals on the ground
to stay,
knowing as we must,
how the vivacity of what was is married
to the vitality of what will be?
I don't say
it's easy, but
what else will do
if the love one claims to have for the world
be true?
So let us go on, cheerfully enough,
this and every crisping day,
though the sun be swinging east,
and the ponds be cold and black,
and the sweets of the year be doomed.
|
|
|
Let's carry forward a spirit of gratitude for the strength we've discovered within ourselves and the support we've shared with others. May the upcoming break bring moments of peace and renewal.
In gratitude,
Jen

Possession and Consumption of Alcohol on Campus |
Last month, the Senior Leadership Team published an updated policy on the possession and consumption of alcohol on campus. The policy includes sections on university events (including athletic events), alcohol sales, special licenses, and residential facilities. There is also a section called "Consumption of Alcohol within the University Curriculum" which describes standard documentation beginning Winter 2025 for courses that include the possession and/or consumption of alcohol (ex. CMB 430 - The Science of Brewing and Beer). This documentation includes (1) a note in the course syllabus, and (2) the completion of a short form each semester to provide dates and other details. At this time, the process for requesting to serve alcohol at Academic Affairs hosted events will not change.
