National Safe Digging Month

With the rising temperatures that April brings traditionally there also comes an increase of outdoor work and projects. Whether they are small projects or a large home improvement project, it is important that you call Kansas One-Call before starting any digging project.

Did you know, every six minutes an underground utility line is damaged because someone decided to dig without first calling Dig Safe? Beyond the devastating risks of death or injury, consider the costs of repair, fines, and even inconvenience. From putting in a fence, planting a tree or building a deck, following these 5 steps will save a lot of time and money.
  1. Notify – Call 811 or 1-800-DIG-SAFE or visit www.kansas811.com to request to have your utility lines located at no cost to you.
  2. Wait – Wait two to three days for a response to your request.
  3. Confirm – Confirm that all affected utilities have responded.
  4. Respect – Respect the markers provided by the affected utilities. They are your guide for the duration of your project.
  5. Dig Carefully – If you can't avoid digging near the markers (within 18-24 inches on all sides, depending on state laws), consider moving your project.
