We are pleased to announce that effective July 1, 2024 the Divisions of General Medicine and Geriatrics (GMG) and General Medical Sciences (GMS) will merge to form the Division of General Medicine and Geriatrics. This unified division will be led by Bradley Evanoff, MD, MPH. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Thomas M. De Fer, MD, the Carol B. and Jerome T. Loeb Professor of Medical Education, for his exceptional leadership as the Chief of the Division of General Medicine and Geriatrics. Dr. De Fer is spending more time in the Dean's Office with UME curriculum and we congratulate him on the success of the new Gateway Curriculum.
This spring we celebrated the graduations of our exceptional fellows and residents. We wish them the best as they embark on the next step in their careers. We wrapped up an informative year of Grand Rounds and look forward to resuming Grand Rounds in August and Clinical Pathology Conferences (CPC) in September.
Our DOM spotlight story features Street Med STL and the incredible work Nathan Nolan, MD, is doing for the St. Louis unhoused community. Take a few moments to learn more about their mission to provide essential care to unhoused individuals and discover how you can help support their efforts.
Please visit the DOM website regularly to stay updated on the latest division news and as on our DOM social media accounts. Bringing Healthcare to the Streets:
The Mission of Street MED STL |
In a world where healthcare often operates on rigid schedules and within traditional settings, there exists a growing need to adapt to the realities of those who cannot easily access or adhere to such structures. This is where organizations like Street Med STL step in, redefining healthcare delivery by taking it to the streets, quite literally.

The Gateway Curriculum renewal process has officially come full circle, meeting again at Busch Stadium as they did in 2019 before the new curriculum launched. Last week, faculty, staff, and student representatives reconvened to report program evaluation findings and brainstorm possible improvements. Dean Perlmutter joined Dean Aagaard and attendees in a toast on the warning track to celebrate past successes and look ahead to the future. Also celebrated was our PT Program who have also graduated their first class in their new competency-based curriculum. WUSM PT is the first competency-based PT Program in the nation.
