Three UTA graduate programs ranked among the top 50 nationally in the 2024 Best Graduate School rankings from U.S. News & World Report, highlighted by a No. 31 national ranking, out of 170 universities, for the Master of Science in Nursing program in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation.

| The College of Nursing and Health Innovation (CONHI) recently announced the passing of Kathryn Daniel, professor of graduate nursing and a beloved friend and colleague.
"Kathy’s storied career and tireless dedication to nursing education leaves an indelible impression on our college, our faculty, and our students. We are eternally grateful she shared her talents with us. Our thoughts are with her family and friends during this difficult time," said CONHI Dean Elizabeth Merwin.

In honor of Earth Week, on Thursday, April 18, there will be an information session on a project that incorporated four tons of recycled plastic into two parking lots. There will also be a plastic road demonstration at the Earth Day Fair on Tuesday, April 23, starting at 11 a.m. in Brazos Park. The Earth Day Fair will be an opportunity to celebrate our planet and learn about UTA’s efforts to establish a sustainable environment. There will be T-shirts, food trucks, giveaways, activities, and music. Other Earth Week celebrations include a scavenger hunt on Wednesday, April 17, volunteering at a compost site on Thursday, April 18, and bracelet-making on Monday, April 22.

| UTA tennis teams compete in WAC Tournament
|
UTA's men's tennis team won the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Regular Season Championship over the weekend. The team will continue in the WAC Tournament on Friday, April 19, starting at 9 a.m. with the finals set for Saturday, April 20, at 9 a.m. at the HEB Tennis Center at Pendleton Park in Harlingen. The women's tennis team will also compete in the WAC Tournament at 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, in Harlingen. Visit utamavs.com for more information.

Honors Research Symposium

The Honors Research Symposium is a culmination of months of hard work and dedication of honors students in conducting undergraduate research in various disciplines. This semester’s poster presentations will be held Friday, April 19, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Rio Grande Ballroom of the University Center. The event is free and open to faculty, staff, students, and the community.

Scholarship for natural conservation research

The Arlington Conservation Council Endowment for Scholarship and Research is offering a $3,000 scholarship to sophomore students interested in conducting undergraduate research pertaining to the conservation of natural resources during the summer of 2024. Submit an application by Wednesday, April 22.

The Office of Community Standards is hosting Final Exam Prep Week April 23-25. Attend to receive free supplies, tips, and treats to get ready for finals. Tuesday, April 23, and Wednesday, April 24, there will be free final exam survival kits, and Thursday, April 25, there will be free snow cones in the University Center Mall.

Recycle your eclipse glasses
|
You can turn in undamaged eclipse glasses for recycling or reuse at the information desks at the University Center and The Commons. The University will send the glasses to nonprofit groups for future distribution and use.

| Survey for students with foster care experience
|
School of Social Work researchers are conducting a study on UTA students between the ages of 18 and 30 with foster care experience. This study aims to understand barriers and facilitators in young adults with foster care experience pursuing and finishing their college education. If you have lived or are currently living in foster care, complete an online survey to enter into a drawing for a chance to win a $30 Target gift card. In addition, you can earn a $50 Target gift card by completing an interview in person or via Microsoft Teams. Email Hui Huang with questions or to schedule an interview.

The Office of Sustainability is advancing the Campus Master Plan and the Energy Transition and Resilience Plan. Attend an open house event 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, in the Red River and Concho rooms in the University Center to provide feedback on the goals outlined in both plans. Take the Energy Transition and Resilience Plan Survey to communicate your priorities as they relate to sustainability, resilience, and climate action measures.

| Glass Art Sale Preview Day
|
The Spring Glass Art Sale and Fundraiser, a free event with live glass-blowing demonstrations, will be open to the general public on Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. or until sold out. The preview day on Friday, May 3, will allow faculty, staff, and students to shop the day before the sale opens to the public.
