Hats Off to our Volunteers!
Barbara Lucken, a long-time member of St. Luke’s, recently shared a few memories of earlier days.
“We moved here from Baltimore as my husband was employed there for Martin Marietta. Due to his assignments, we moved frequently, living in Fort Walton Beach, El Paso Texas, and even overseas in Germany.”
“Exploring different places and cultures was interesting and beneficial to both our two daughters. After they grew older, I also began a career with Martin Marietta as a procurement administrator and worked for 21 years in engineering tooling and test equipment.”
| |
During those years, Barbara says she was comforted to find St. Luke’s close to home and becoming her family.
“I especially loved the church’s emphasis on missions, so I volunteered for the cooperative food program that we supported for people in need.” And for 12 years, she assisted those contacting the church for financial help. Much later she began volunteering at our Community Counseling Center and continues giving a few days of assistance there each week.
Barbara now finds time to travel, play bridge, and sets aside time to create a medley of crafts, including colorful ceramics, stitchery, and quilted pictures, many of which she donates to our UMW Blessed Treasures Gift Shop.
