| GW administers federal and state leave benefits based on an employee's work location. Effective January 1, 2026, DC FMLA leave benefits will only be available to employees with a work location in Washington, DC.
What this means:

Reminder: QLE Supporting Documentation Accepted During University Holidays |
|
|
Even when the university is closed for breaks and holidays, GW Benefits continues to accept documentation in support of Qualified Life Events (QLE) changes. Documents can be uploaded directly to the GW Benefits Enrollment System or sent to GW Benefits via email or by fax to 571-553-8385.
Please note: Deadlines for submitting QLE documentation still apply, even during closures. For example:
-
An employee with a December 25 deadline to submit a marriage certificate to enroll their spouse in GW benefits, must still observe their deadline despite the university being closed.
-
You or an eligible dependent lose coverage on December 31, 2025. Be sure to submit your supporting document on or before December 31, 2025 if you wish to have GW coverage effective January 1, 2026.
