Yesterday afternoon and earlier today we provided information regarding an anonymous email threatening violence on the South Orange campus. Throughout, Public Safety has been working closely with local, state, federal and international law enforcement.
Following careful investigation and analysis, all authorities have determined the anonymous email does not represent a credible threat to the University community. As a result, and as announced earlier today, all campus activities will continue as scheduled. Students are returning from Fall Break and classes will resume in person on Wednesday.
Law enforcement informs us that the messaging has been identified as similar to other threats directed at multiple institutions and organizations. Unfortunately, the entire nation and world have experienced a proliferation of similar despicable incidents aimed at anonymously causing disruption and sowing fear. Regardless, any threat to our community’s safety is taken extremely seriously, and the University activated its safety protocols immediately upon learning of the threatening email.
We are grateful to the public servants and law enforcement personnel at home and abroad who worked diligently to assess the situation and to provide the University with the appropriate information to keep our community safe.
We understand the stress this email threat has caused for many members of our community. Students can find dedicated resources through Seton Hall’s Counseling and Psychological Services, Campus Ministry, and employees may use the Employee Assistance Program.
The safety of our entire University community remains our foremost priority. We have and will continue to utilize a wide array of measures and protocols designed with your protection and well-being in mind.
We are grateful to all community members for their patience, understanding and support of each other during this difficult time. We wish each of you a successful remainder of the fall 2023 semester.
