Northeast
Sarkes Tarzian’s AC/WAJI (95.1fm, Fort Wayne) and Adams Radio Group's AC/WWFW (103.9fm, Fort Wayne) both go all Christmas.
Meteorologist Joe Strus exits Nexstar CBS affiliate/WANE-TV (Channel 15, Fort Wayne) and joins Quincy Media's WHOI-TV ("Heart of Illinois") as weekday morning meteorologist.
Federated Media's Country/WQHK (105.1fm, Huntertown) morning host Josh Michaels exits after 2 and a half years with K-105 (IRW 07/02/2018). His former co-host Kaysie Chase exited K-105 earlier this year (IRW 08/20/2020).
Where Are They Now? Former WANE-TV news director Rick Moll will retire in February 2021 as News Director for WSLS-TV in Roanoke, Virginia.
Northcentral
Sinclair's CBS and FOX affiliate/WSBT-TV (Channel 22, South Bend) welcomes Samantha Waddell as weekend sports anchor and reporter. Ms. Waddell graduated from the University of Oklahoma and last worked at WFXR-TV in Roanoke, Virginia.
Ignacio Zepeda’s I.B. Communications closes on their deal to buy Regional Mexican/WHLY (1580am, South Bend) from Times Communications. A filed addendum to the asset purchase agreement modified the purpose price paid at closing to $101,750.00. In 2013, I.B. Communications began a TBA (Time Brokerage Agreement) for WHLY (IRW 12/10/2012).
Where Are They Now? Former South Bend and Indianapolis broadcaster Casey Daniels now does mornings (with JoJo Girard) at WFGR in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Northwest
Cort in the Morning (Cort Chilian and Dick Donovan) are based at Allen County Public Library's Variety/WELT-LP (95.7fm, Fort Wayne), and they added Neighbors Corp's Variety/WVLP-FM (103.1fm, Valparaiso). On WVLP-LP, Court in the Morning airs Tuesday and Friday mornings at 8:00am Central Time. We will have news of another affiliate soon.
Eastcentral
Hoover exits afternoons at Rodgers Broadcasting's Hot AC/WFMG (101.3fm, Richmond). Succeeding him is Chloe Tyson, who will also do middays on sister AC/WZZY (98.3fm, Winchester). Ms. Tyson last worked for Radio One/Indianapolis as both a producer and weekend on-air.
Central
Steve Cooper worked over 30 years in Indianapolis radio, starting at WNDE (1260am, Indianapolis), then moving to what was then WIFE (1310am, Indianapolis). After WIFE flipped formats to all news, Mr. Cooper moved to WFBQ (94.7fm, Indianapolis) and teamed up with Carey Carlson in mornings. After "Coop" left WFBQ, the Bob and Tom Show began. "Coop" moved to a new AC formatted station: WTPI-FM (107.9fm, Indianapolis) where he worked for over 20 years, nearly all of it alongside Kelly Vaughn in morning drive. Sad to report that Mr. Cooper (born James Carr) died at age 72. Radio's Best Friend Art Vuolo (and Cooper's roommate at Eastern Michigan University) put together this tribute video.
Circle City Broadcasting's MyNetworkTV affiliate/WNDY-TV (Channel 23, Marion) adds The Bob and Tom Show, each weeknight. It is a special 30-minute broadcast (starting at 11:30pm) of the morning syndicated radio show, based at iHeart's Classic Rock/WFBQ (94.7fm, Indianapolis). The Bob and Tom Show began on Q95 in 1983.
Nexstar's CBS affiliate WTTV-TV (Channel 4, Bloomington) and FOX affiliate/WXIN-TV (Channel 59, Indianapolis) reporter Aaron Cantrell exits. Mr. Cantrell now works in Nashville, Tennessee for a station he once interned at: WTVF-TV (Channel 5). Also, Eric Pointer becomes a reporter at CBS4 and FOX59. Mr. Pointer last worked in Roanoke, Virginia as a reporter for WFXR-TV.
Mid-America Radio Group Chief Engineer Stephen Ross died earlier this year. He was 71 years old. He worked as a producer for WTTV-TV (Channel 4), and then worked for WGRT (810am); today it is WSYW. He then built 101.9fm in Brownsburg, where he did mornings and managed the station. Here's the complete obituary.
Metropolitan Indianapolis Public Media's NPR affiliate/WFYI-FM (90.1fm, Indianapolis) updates their schedule with several new shows, including some locally produced shows.
Weeknights:
World Café airs at 9:00pm.
Monday through Thursday:
The Daily (New York Times podcast) airs at 6:00pm.
Sunday:
The New Yorker Radio Hour airs at 10:00am.
Reveal (investigative journalism) airs at 1:00pm.
As for the local shows, Kyle Long and Herman "Butch" Slaugher now host an audio documentary focused on cultural achievements of Black artists and musicians from central Indiana. "Echoes of Indiana Avenue" airs both Thursday evening at 8:00pm and Sunday evening at 7:00pm. Finally, Melissa Davis hosts Small Studio Signal Boost, which features new music from Indiana artists, interviews, and conversations. Small Studio Signal Boost airs Saturday evening at 9:00pm.
Where Are They Now? Former then-WNOU (93.1fm) PD Chris Edge joins Capitol Broadcasting Raleigh and now programs "That Station 95.7".
Westcentral
Heartland Media's CBS affiliate/WTHI-TV (Channel 10, Terre Haute) morning reporter and producer Jordan Kudisch exits. Ms. Kudisch moves to the east coast and will anchor for WMDT-TV in Salisbury, Maryland.
Where Are They Now? Former WTHI-TV weekday morning reporter and producer Abby Kirk now produces in Salt Lake City, Utah for KTVX-TV.
Southcentral
White River Broadcasting's Classic Hits/WWWY (106.1fm, North Vernon) adds Scott Michaels to afternoons (3pm until 8pm).
Southwest
Virtual News Center adds Thy Word Radio Network in Evansville to their affiliate list. Thy Word Radio Network consists of these stations and FM translators (all with a religious format):
WBGW-AM (1330am, Evansville) and W273DY (102.5fm, Evansville)
WBGW-FM (101.5fm, Fort Branch), W229BX (93.7fm, Tell City), and W293AT (106.5fm, Owensboro, Kentucky)

WBFW (94.5fm, Smith Mills, Kentucky)
"We are glad to have Virtual News Center adding a local flavor to our daily broadcasts. This Week in Indiana Radio History
Sign-on dates seem to be a prickly matter, subject to great debate, and mostly impossible to confirm. If there's something we need to add to the calendar, please let us know. Please also e-mail us if you have updated information.
December 20: In 1955, Clarence Leich died. Age 71. Mr. Leich served as the longtime GM of Evansville on the Air, Inc./WGBF(AM), retiring in 1950.
December 21: In 1952, Channel 34 in South Bend signs on as WSBT-TV (for original owners The South Bend Tribune). WSBT-TV moved to Channel 22 in 1957, but remains WSBT-TV today. In 1977, Channel 55 in Fort Wayne signs on as WFFT-TV ("We're Fifty Five Television"), and still is.
December 22: In 1947, 1580am in South Bend signs on as WJVA (St. Joseph VAlley). Today, it's WHLY. In 1964, 105.3fm in Evansville signs on as WVHI (for owner "Valley HI Broadcasting"). Today, it's WJLT. In 1975, 100.9fm in Huntingburg signs on as WBDC(FM) and still is.
December 23: In 2010, Indianapolis broadcast engineer Murray G. Smith died. Age 88. He worked at WIFE (1310am) and WIFE-FM (107.9fm).
December 24: In 1988, 89.3fm in Richmond signs on as WVXR. Today, it's WKRT.
December 25: In 2002, WZOM (105.7fm, Defiance, Ohio) flipped formats from Oldies to Country.
December 26: In 2000, WZTR (98.9fm, now licensed to Prospect, Kentucky) flipped formats from Modern AC to CHR.
