Laser Day welcomed 1,025 incoming students and their families to campus on August 12 for a lively introduction to college life. Students connected with faculty, staff, student leaders, and campus resources through academic presentations, student success sessions, a student panel, and a resource fair. This summer, IVC’s MESA Program expanded its STEM Projects Advancing Research & Knowledge (SPARK) initiative into a 10-week STEM research and experiential learning experience with support from the Samueli Foundation.  The program served 48 students from IVC, Fullerton College, and Orange Coast College, providing hands-on training in areas such as programming, artificial intelligence, engineering design, and scientific research. Students also completed 16 faculty-mentored research projects in fields ranging from aerospace engineering and robotics to quantum computing and renewable energy. Twelve IVC students presented original research at Cal State Fullerton’s 13th Annual Summer Research Symposium on August 6. The students were among 51 community college participants in Project RAISE’s Undergraduate Research Experience, which pairs students with CSUF faculty mentors for hands-on research in STEM fields.
