Welcome to the start of the fall quarter. I want to share my excitement for the energy and renewed purpose that this season always brings. It is a wonderful time to reconnect with our returning community and extend a warm welcome to our incoming faculty, students and staff.
As we begin this quarter together, I want to emphasize that the well-being and success of our students, faculty, and staff are our highest priority. Find a Student is available to staff and faculty: Read the TSS Find a Student is Restored article for known data gaps and TSS navigation tips. Students do not yet have access to Find a Student, but are expected to in the coming weeks.

TSS Updates for Faculty Campus Notice: A Sept. 17 campus notice from the Interim Executive Vice Chancellor Robert Continetti was sent out to inform faculty of relevant TSS updates, including: Find a Student, Canvas Rosters, and how to get support.

Class Roster App Update: The Class Roster App launch is postponed and will not be available for fall quarter. The application will continue to be refined and updates will be shared as they become available.

My Class List: To access class roster information, staff and faculty should use the My Class List report in the Student tab of the Business Analytics Hub (BAH). Review the My Class List Blink page for guidance. The team is prioritizing adding additional content to this report (student photos, waitlist information, etc.) to assist faculty and staff. Note: Current FERPA training is required to access this report.
- Canvas Rosters: As of September 21, instructors should have the ability to communicate with their students in Canvas, so long as they have a course shell with enrollment listed (in the People page).

TSS Login: Access to TSS must be approved and provisioned via the Campus Access Request Form. To access the system, use sis.ucsd.edu and login with your Active Directory (AD) credentials. Learn more via the TSS Roles and Access KBA. Report any technical or login issues to tss@ucsd.edu.
- Audience Icons added: New icons have been added to the TSS Current Limitations & Known Issues document, assigning issues to audience groups for increased readability and relevance. View the full legend at the top of the document for more information.

Critical Student TSS Updates for Faculty/Staff Awareness:

Booking & Waitlist Issues: The team continues to address issues from students regarding course booking and waitlists. This work is being prioritized, and resolving these issues is recognized as important as fall quarter begins soon. The team appreciates your continued patience while students are supported with issue resolution.

TEA-approved Add requests do not automatically enroll students in the course: Once a request is approved, students must return to TSS to book the course. TEA does not send email confirmations, so students should watch for the bell notification in TSS or check back on their request status.

Class section subtitles missing or outdated on Schedule of Classes (SoC): TSS is not currently displaying subtitles on the SoC for events with subtitle updates. There is currently no way for the scheduling team to update the name on an event package. The project team is aware and working to resolve this issue.

Direct Deposit Enrollment Update: TSS has reached 16,300 direct deposit enrollments. Thank you for helping to encourage students to complete this action to ensure refunds and stipends are distributed to them. Please continue to share the message as another 3,000 students are still expected to enroll. View more at Enroll in Direct Deposit.

ISIS moves to read-only: Expected for mid/late October. More information will be shared with the campus community in advance to prepare for this transition.
- Major/Minor Application: This tool will allow students to request major/minor changes and is expected to be available later in the fall quarter.

- Be Specific:

Share who you are. Include your role and context to assist you swiftly. Examples: "I am a scheduler in Biological Sciences," "I am an undergraduate advisor in Eighth College," or "I am a faculty member."
- Share as much detail as possible. Share what you were doing, what you expected to happen and what actually happened. Include screenshots.

Report Only Once: Submit one ticket per issue, avoid follow-up check-ins unless you have new information, and close your ticket once resolved.
- Use Official Channels for Updates: Use established communication channels for updates rather than contacting individual team members directly.

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated nationally from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 to honor the heritage, history and cultural diversity of Latinx individuals. At UC San Diego, the month-long celebration is called Latinx Heritage Month and runs from Sept. 15 through Oct. 31. Take part in this year's National Council of Hispanic Employment Program Managers (NCHEPM) theme, “Unidos Somos Más” (Together, We Are More).

The 2026 UC San Diego Common Read is “Against Breaking: On the Power of Poetry,” by Ada Limón, the 24th Poet Laureate of the United States, 2024 Time magazine Woman of the Year, and a 2023 MacArthur fellow.
Campuswide Common Read events for the 2026-27 academic year are being planned, including an author visit on October 22.

The new Triton Center serves as a centralized hub for health, wellness, and comprehensive student and campus support services. We encourage everyone to stop by, walk through the new spaces, and discover how these centralized resources are designed to support your well-being and professional or academic success.
The Triton Administrative Services Building: Located along Gilman Drive east of Library Walk, this facility is also now open and will house the Triton Transfer Hub, Student First Stop, Global Initiatives and Teaching and Learning Commons (except for supplemental instruction, content tutoring and writing support- these services will remain in Geisel Library).
The Triton Health and Wellness Building: Now open within the Triton Center, this is a fully integrated student, faculty and staff health center, centralizing resources and providing even more access to comprehensive health services. It’s now accessible from Rupertus Walk just south of Price Center and Town Square, and south of the Student Services building and Yogurt World, for appointments and visits.

Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026
This free, online, 24-hour conference begins at 12:00 UTC, or 5 a.m. PT, and follows the globe across time zones.
UC San Diego’s Collaborative is featured in a session scheduled for Oct. 28 at 4 p.m. PT: “Stability in Motion: Building Anti-Fragile Services Through Strategic Alliance.” The session explores building a strategic alliance while maintaining stable, reliable, scalable and responsive services during organizational growth and transformation.
Sessions are led by practitioners from colleges and universities and focus on what was tried, what changed and what was learned. Content is geared to all experience levels. Register by Oct. 2 and learn more on the Lean HE Conference website.

Making Your Canvas Courses More Accessible with YuJa Panorama |
YuJa Panorama is UC San Diego's new accessibility platform for Canvas, following a comprehensive review by IT Services, the Committee on Academic Information Technology (CAIT), and Senate leadership in early 2026.
Endorsed by CAIT and used by five other UC campuses, Panorama integrates directly with your courses to help you identify accessibility issues, prioritize the improvements that will have the greatest impact on students, and remediate your course content over time, while providing students with accessible alternative formats for supported documents.
Getting Up to Speed
In May, a faculty-wide Accessibility Townhall was held to discuss the ADA Title II mandate and available faculty resources. View the townhall recording and slide deck.
Summer Progress & Milestones
Over the summer, the team has worked diligently to prepare for a full rollout, including:

- Canvas Integration: Panorama is now fully integrated into the Canvas LMS, and the core team is trained on its features.

Pilot Programs: A cohort of instructors and departmental staff piloted the platform in summer courses to refine the experience.
- Strategic Partnerships: "Discover and Explore Panorama" sessions were held with key support partners, including the Office for Students with Disabilities, Extended Studies and the Library.

Dedicated Support: A Panorama Training Program Coordinator joined the team, ITS Service Desk technicians began training to handle common inquiries, and a new "How-to" website with a Step-by-Step Guide is now live.

What’s Next? For the Fall 2026 rollout, ITS and the Senate are exploring strategies to streamline adoption, including the potential to enable Panorama tools automatically for all Canvas courses.

Now Live: New Major Exploration Website |
The new UC San Diego Major Exploration Website has officially launched at majors.ucsd.edu.
This tool is designed to help prospective students explore majors as they consider where to apply and what educational pathways to pursue. It is also a valuable resource for new and continuing students who are undeclared or seeking to make the most of their major experience.

A Collaborative Effort This project was the result of a year-long collaboration between Undergraduate Education, the Career Center, all academic schools and colleges, and several Enrollment Management partners, including Admissions, Outreach and Engagement, and Creative Services.
Additional content and tools will be released in the coming months. Admissions officers, advisors, and staff are encouraged to use and promote the resource. Feedback is welcome as the tool is refined; please email Stefan Montouth with any comments or questions.

Support for Online Course Development |
UC San Diego and UC Online are offering support to departments and faculty for the development of online undergraduate and graduate courses. Selected projects will receive one quarter of course development support.

Selection Criteria
Proposals are reviewed quarterly by the Senate Administration Committee on Distance Education (CODE). Priority is given to undergraduate courses and those that are R-Course approved. Learn more about the proposal questions and evaluation criteria in the July 14 campus notice.
Once awards are made, a member of the Digital Learning team will reach out to assess your course needs and create a design plan to execute within that quarter.
This proposal process will remain open throughout the 2026-27 academic year.

2026-2027 RFP for the UC-Hispanic Serving Institutions Doctoral Diversity Initiative |
The UC Office of the President has announced the 2026-27 Request for Proposals (RFP) for the University of California Hispanic Serving Institutions Doctoral Diversity Initiative (UC-HSI DDI). This is a system-wide effort designed to strengthen academic pathways to the professoriate. Participation in the program is based on institutional affiliation and academic criteria. Selection does not consider race, sex, or any other protected characteristic, in compliance with University of California policy and applicable law.
The program supports graduate student preparation and institutional collaboration to advance inclusive excellence through evidence-based academic development strategies. The UC-HSI DDI program includes two components:

- Competitive grant awards to UC faculty and faculty administrators to support both short-term and long-term programs that strengthen and expand academic pathways to the professoriate.
- Funding to support graduate student preparation for faculty careers, also known as the UC President’s Pre-Professoriate Fellowship program.
|

Every proposal requires a signature page signed by the Vice Chancellor for Organizational Transformation. The UC San Diego Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) Compliance Training on UC Learning is now available. The training was developed through the efforts of the Vice Chancellor Offices for Organizational Transformation and Operations Management and Capital Programs in collaboration with the Human Resources Learning Technologies team.
The first of its kind in the UC system, the training reflects UC San Diego’s prioritization of compliance with federal and state repatriation laws and UC policy. The content focuses on creating shared understanding of NAGPRA basic requirements for reporting Native American and Native Hawaiian cultural resources. This module is intended to strengthen campus consistency and provide accessible guidance for those within the campus community who may encounter cultural material during their course of work.
All faculty and staff, particularly those who may have a higher likelihood of encountering cultural items or remains in their work, are strongly encouraged to complete the training.

The Collaborative Welcomes Library Business Office |
Academic Affairs' The Collaborative welcomes the Library Business Office as its newest partner. The alliance now includes the Academic Affairs Business Office, Enrollment Management Business Office and Undergraduate Colleges Business Office.
On Sept. 1, an in-person all-staff meeting introduced the team and launched the partnership. Functional workgroups met to review common processes and tasks, identify existing alignments, and plan greater alignment across the network.
The Collaborative is sponsored by Academic Affairs Finance and Administration and supported by strategic stakeholders from across all business office areas.

UC San Diego supports the campus community in preparing for and traveling globally. Travelers are encouraged to use UC and UC San Diego resources to make informed decisions.

Triton One: Launching fall 2026, this university-wide access program provides undergraduate students with required course materials, digital and physical, for a predictable flat rate of $199 per quarter. For urgent textbook questions, email textbooks@ucsd.edu.
- Student Health Services: Provides comprehensive primary care, pharmacy services, and wellness programs to keep students healthy and focused. A 24/7 nurse advice phone line is available to all students at no cost regardless of insurance coverage.
