Greetings Creighton Colleagues, February 2024 Newsletter
I couldn’t be more excited for the programming, new initiatives, and resources the Center for Faculty Excellence and our collaborative partners have in store for you this spring. As you read through our February newsletter, I hope you join in my enthusiasm, find opportunities to engage with colleagues, and develop in your faculty role.

I’m also happy to communicate some highlights of the CFE’s newly finalized strategic plan. One of our goals is to promote the Center for Faculty Excellence to allow people internal and external to Creighton University to easily access resources. A step towards accomplishing this goal is to share the CFE’s mission, vision, and three areas of service. In subsequent newsletters this semester, I’ll spotlight each of these areas to ensure you know the talented people in our center, and ways you can engage with us, access resources, and share your ideas.
I hope you have a productive, smooth, and satisfying semester!
Lou Jensen, OTD, OTR/L.
Associate Vice Provost-Interim, CFE

| Boost Engagement & Interactivity with Vevox |
The online polling and Q&A tool Vevox is now available to faculty university-wide, and we are very excited about the opportunities this can provide for engagement and interactivity both online and in-person. Now is the time to begin getting acquainted with the tool, and as the phases of implementation roll out, more options for integration will become available. There are many resources to help jump-start your skills with Vevox:

Canvas rubrics can help make grading much more efficient for instructors, however making changes to those rubrics can be a little challenging. The most important thing to know is Canvas rubrics can't be edited if they have been attached to more than one assignment, graded discussion, or quiz. If attempted, a warning message pops up letting users know this rubric cannot be edited. Click the
OK button when the warning message pops up and Canvas will create a copied version of the rubric which will automatically replace the previous rubric in the assignment. When you use the rubric for grading, the rubric will update for all students in SpeedGrader. If you frequently update rubrics, it is recommended to periodically evaluate and delete unused rubrics to avoid confusion. It is always best practice to review and confirm rubrics before students submit assignments to avoid complications during grading. Visit the Canvas Instructor Guides for more information on managing rubrics or adding rubrics.
