Renovation of I/DD Homes

Thanks to a very generous $200,000 grant from The Golisano Foundation, renovations have either been completed or are underway at four of our residential homes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Much of this construction is designed to accommodate the needs of our residents as they grow older. Pictured here is a crew from Mission Health + Home, who remodeled the bathrooms at Newcastle House to make them bigger and safer, with walk-in showers, brighter lighting, grab bars, non-slip floors, and more. Our residents love the work and so do we!

Two CCFCS Employees Named Health Care Heroes

Congratulations to Obaida Omar and Yvonne Peters, who’ve been named Health Care Heroes by the Rochester Business Journal. Obaida is the manager of our Refugee Special Needs Health Case Management program. She helps refugee families navigate the local healthcare system, especially those who need urgent care. Yvonne is the Director of Nursing. Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, she was at the forefront of initiatives to improve care for patients in our substance abuse disorder programs. Both Obaida and Yvonne were honored at the Health Care Hero Awards ceremony on March 28th at the Hyatt Regency in Rochester.
Food Pantry Reopens to the Public

Food Pantry Reopens to the Public

For the first time since early in the pandemic, the CCFCS Food Pantry is back open to the public. The pantry, located on St. Paul St. in Rochester, is open to walk-ins from 9 am to 12:30 pm Monday and Wednesday, and by appointment only Tuesday and Thursday. A program of Community Resource Services, the Food Pantry stands apart because it offers food security case management to those who choose that level of help, serving individuals and families throughout Monroe County.

Foster Parents Needed for Unaccompanied Refugee Teens

Our Foster Care Program for Unaccompanied Refugee Minors is in need of foster parents for refugee teens in need. This program is only one of two in New York State and 25 in the U.S. Every year, it helps 40 youths from around the world resettle in Rochester. This includes four sisters from Rwanda last year, whose incredible story is the subject of our most recent appeal. For those who want to learn more about becoming foster parents for unaccompanied refugee minors, we offer informational sessions on the 2nd Monday of every month.

That includes wonderful people like Clifford L., who created the artwork you see at the top of this newsletter. Clifford, who's pictured here, is a resident of Gavitt House and a prolific artist!
