Apply for the Faculty Peer Review Corps
Missouri Online | eLearning invites faculty to apply for the Faculty Peer Reviewer Corps (FPRC). Applicants must have a strong interest and background in online teaching, learning and course design.

FPRC members will receive training to perform Quality Course Reviews. These ensure all of our courses meet the UM System quality standards highlighted in the 5 Pillars of Effective Course Design. Reviewers will conduct 10 to 12 reviews per year and earn $100 per credit hour reviewed.

Dr. Antonio Byrd (antoniobyrd@umkc.edu), Assistant Professor of English, was named an Executive Board Member of the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC).  CCCC is the largest professional organization focused on researching and teaching composition in the world, drawing thousands of participants annually.

Dean Kati Toivanen (toivanenk@umkc.edu), Professor of Studio Art, who has been commissioned to create a work for the new KCI airport.  Read an article about her interdisciplinary work in the KC Independent

Get Launched! New Faculty Development Series
Get Launched! will provide an overview of UMKC resources, policies and tools that support the learning environment, as well as development opportunities that fuel continual improvement in faculty experiences. Get Launched! is just one of the many ways the UMKC invests in faculty success at UMKC. 

This program is open only to full-time faculty in their first or second year at UMKC. Get Launched! sessions will be monthly on the third Friday of each month from noon-2pm beginning September 17th.

Faculty Diversity Dialogue Series
The Faculty Diversity Dialogues is a collaborative initiative between the UMKC Division of Diversity and Inclusion, the UMKC Provost’s Office and the UMKC Faculty Senate. The initiative provides a space for faculty to openly discuss topics relating to diversity, equity and inclusion. Held throughout the year, these faculty-run sessions are designed and oriented specifically with faculty in mind.

Dr. Harris III Professional Learning Series

The Effects of Racial Microaggressions on Belonging and Success for Students of Color


Dr. Frank Harris III is a professor of postsecondary education and co-director of the Community College Equity Assessment Lab (CCEAL) at San Diego State University.  In addition to serving as a professor and co-director of CCEAL, Harris is a senior strategist in the Division of Campus Diversity and Student Affairs. In this role, he advises the Division on efforts to institutionalize equity and designs innovative professional learning experiences to build equity mindedness among faculty and staff.

Register for the Inclusive STEM Teaching Project
The Inclusive STEM Teaching Project, an NSF Improving Undergraduate STEM Education program, is hosting a six-week Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) from October 13th - November 25th via edX.  Join our community of over 1,000 faculty, postdocs, graduate students, and staff, and register for our online course this fall. By participating in this course, you will learn how to:
 
•    Advance your awareness, self-efficacy, and ability to cultivate inclusive classroom environments;
•    Support your development as a reflective, inclusive practitioner;
•    Engage in reflection and discussion around topics of equity and inclusion across a variety of institutional contexts;
•    Implement inclusive teaching methods in your classes which will remove common barriers and enhance learning in STEM for all students.

Announcing the release of Writing Spaces: Readings on Writing Volume 4, with 19 new open-access essays for use in your composition courses!  Writing Spaces: Readings on Writing offer multiple perspectives on a wide range of topics about writing. In each chapter, authors present their unique views, insights and strategies for writing by addressing undergraduate readers directly.  Volume 4 adds to previous volumes on important topics such as linguistic diversity, digital privacy, feedback, online source evaluation, grading criteria, social media, racial literacy, public writing, primary data analysis, digital collaboration, writing workflows, genre theory, knowledge transfer, archival research and accessibility.
