It is that time of year again. Time to prepare for Passover. We have a few ideas to share with you to make your seder experience a little different this year.
Make-your-own charoset bar
Having your guests create their own charoset is so much fun! On a side table in our dining room, set up an array of diced fruits, nuts, and a selection of honeys, wines and juices. You can use cheap, reusable plastic shot glasses or small Dixie cups so guests can make multiple variations to find their favorite.
| |
Encourage guests to share their best creations! And yes, we realize that for some adults, their charoset may be more of a sangria - just don't share that one with the kids.
Create your own Haggadah for those at your table
-
For children: The guide In Every Generation, a PJ Library Haggadah makes it so simple to conduct a meaningful, family-friendly seder; its text and sweet illustrations step you through the order of the meal from start to finish. The online PDF version is free.
-
For a mixed age group: Haggadot.com by Recustom makes it easy and free to make your own Haggadah. You can pick and choose what you would like in your seder and very quickly create your own personalized book.
-
For a modern social justice theme: The exodus story and the holiday of Passover are perfect occasions for bringing our social justice values to our celebrations. Take a look at the list put together by Temple Beth El in Madison, WI, which shares links to a wide range of topics.
-
A great digital resource: Whether you are doing your seder in person or online, the URJ has put together an excellent list of resources to help you re-imagine how your service will work. This URJ list includes all kinds of engaging ideas for your seder from music to videos to presentation styles.
Most Importantly!
The goal of Passover is to pass down our story from one generation to the next. Read the room. When the kids (or the adults) have had enough, wrap it up. Best to end on a positive note

Weekend in the Berkshires Wrap-Up |
A large group of Northeast District sisters met in the Berkshires over the weekend of March 14-16. It was a wonderful time for us to come together in person, to make new connections and renew old ones. On Friday, a group got together to see a special museum exhibit, followed by services at a nearby (and newly WRJ-affiliated) temple, and dinner near the hotel.
| |
On Saturday, we enjoyed a lively megillah discussion about women from the Purim story other than Esther and Vashti, led by our weekend guest, Amy Dattner-Levy. We then talked about our various sisterhoods, came up with ways to encourage new members, discussed the upcoming WZC election (see below), learned about and toured Eisner Camp and ate in their dining hall, sang songs, hugged, shared Havdalah, and then hung out back at the hotel.
Sunday, we focused more on strategic and future planning for the district, discussed how different leadership models worked, and ended with a board meeting. Special thanks to Marilyn Shebschievitz, Marsha Moller, Gail Lusitg, Yvette Bergman, and the many others who contributed to making the weekend such a success!
And if you want to see more pictures from the event, you need to pop over to our Northeast District Space on Mighty Networks to view them. They will be tucked under the "File Library" heading starting on Friday this week.
Oh, and a very important Save the Date for you!!
